Mmm Drugs!
Okay folks Homer Simpson here reporting live from my couch! Apparently Novo Nordisk – sounds kinda like a fancy donut shop right? – is hooking up with these telehealth companies Hims & Hers and Ro to sell Wegovy. That's right the weight loss drug that everyone's been yammering about! They're doing this because the cheap knock offs made by those *compounding pharmacies* (whatever those are) are getting the ol' heave ho. As Mr. Burns would say: Excellent!
Why You No Work?!
Now I remember when everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off because there wasn't enough Wegovy to go around. It was worse than running out of donuts at a police convention! But Dave Moore from Novo Nordisk (not related to Kent Brockman I think) says they're teaming up with these telehealth fellas so folks can get their hands on the real stuff. No more mystery juice from shady pharmacies eh?
Seamless Like My Pants After Thanksgiving!
Apparently this is supposed to be "seamless." You know like when I eat a whole box of donuts without spilling a crumb? They're even shipping the stuff right to your door! No more leaving the couch! Now that's what I call progress. You can even get it through Novo Nordisk's new online pharmacy NovoCare. Sounds futuristic!
Ouch! My Wallet!
Okay here's the catch. It's still gonna cost ya. NovoCare has it for $499 a month if you don't have insurance. That's a lot of moolah! Hims & Hers wants $599 a month but they throw in some extras like 24/7 care and nutritional guidance. Nutritional guidance? More like nutritional avoidance am I right? Ro has got the $499 price but has other fees through their membership program.
Lilly is Not Happy!
Now here's where it gets juicy. Hims & Hers is also selling other weight loss drugs even ones from Eli Lilly! But Lilly said “I have no affiliation with that company”. They are not happy. Sounds like someone’s been eating too many lemons! Hims & Hers says that they will fight for the right for consumers to get what they need. The plot thickens! But maybe there’s a plot of donut holes.
The Rules Are The Rules Man!
So it sounds like these compounding pharmacies were making semaglutide the stuff in Wegovy without proper FDA approval. Apparently some are still allowed to do it under certain circumstances but those are going away. This is all because of some shortage. Someone should alert the town crier! Anyway Mr. Moore says they have to stick to the rules. "That's the best way for us to serve patients." Mmm patients! I mean good for them!
