Good News Everyone! Lyft's Across the Pond!
Alright meatbags hold onto your tentacles! Yours truly Leela just got wind of some Earth shattering news. Well maybe not Earth shattering more like 'slightly denting.' Lyft that ride hailing gizmo you humans seem so fond of is buying a European taxi app called FreeNow for a cool 175 million euros. That's like a lot of Slurm! Apparently they wanna muscle their way into the European market. Good luck with that Lyft. Europe's got more regulations than a Zoidberg's got… well you know.
FreeNow? More Like FreeRide... To Profit!
So this FreeNow thingy is based in Germany and operates in over 150 cities. Not bad eh? They're also bragging about being 'earnings positive,' which I guess means they're not losing money faster than Bender loses his head. They even offer e scooters and e mopeds so you can zoom around like a crazed Hermes Conrad delivering paperwork... only you know probably less efficiently.
Lyft CEO Channels His Inner Zapp Brannigan
Lyft's CEO some guy named David Risher is saying now is the time to invade Europe! Two years ago they were apparently losing share and money but now according to him they're doing 'quite well.' He's probably puffing up his chest like Zapp Brannigan before a 'delicate mission.' Personally I think they should have asked me Leela for strategic advice. I've seen some stuff in the universe; I'd have told them 'Just remember to aim for the neutral zone.'
Uber: The 800 Pound Gorilla in a Tiny Spaceship
Of course Lyft's not the first to set foot in Europe. That honor goes to Uber who's been causing regulatory headaches since 2012. London tried to ban 'em twice which sounds about right. Humans and their rules! I'm just saying maybe Lyft should invest in some good lawyers... or a giant robot lawyer! Now that's an idea! Better yet get the Harlem Globetrotters they're immune to legal action.
Competition? Bring It On Baby!
Lyft's gearing up for a showdown with Uber Bolt and Gett. It is going to be a bloodbath! Well hopefully not a literal bloodbath. Unless... does that increase ridership? Just kidding! Seriously though this could be interesting. Can Lyft actually compete in a market already dominated by these companies? Is this the end of Uber's dominance? Will there be surge pricing involved? These are the questions that keep me up at night! Or you know when I'm not fighting mutants in the sewers.
Leela's Expert Opinion: Stay Tuned Folks!
So will Lyft conquer Europe? Will Uber finally get its act together? Will Zoidberg ever find love? Only time will tell! I'll keep my one good eye on this story and report back with any new developments. In the meantime stay tuned and remember: 'Wakka wakka!'
