Not the Career Chip but Close Enough
Alright meatbags Leela here reporting live from… well my depressing apartment where I’m recovering from my latest near death experience. Seems Uber CEO this Dara Khosrowshahi dude is spoutin’ off about career advice. He says don’t get all tied down to one idea of your 'perfect' job. Apparently bein’ open to new stuff is the real path to a fulfilling career. Sounds a lot like Fry accidentally becoming the Deliverer of Darkness huh? Who knew random chance could lead to something besides a giant ball of garbage attacking New New York?
Luck and Curiosity: The Secret Ingredients to Success (and Slurm)
Khosrowshahi who’s been runnin’ Uber since 2017 claims he got 'unbelievably lucky' because he’s open to anything. He says be curious about new people and interests outside your field. That’s kinda like me tryin’ to understand Fry's obsession with that green goop Slurm. I mean curiosity is one thing but that stuff glows! Anyway this guy seems to think that curiosity will open you up to the world and maybe a few dark matter mines along the way... Wait did he say the secret to success is luck? I knew I should have bought that lottery ticket instead of this eye cream!
From Expedia to Uber: The Scenic Route (with a Few Detours)
Before Uber Khosrowshahi dabbled in various industries including leadin’ travel company Expedia and workin’ as a CFO at some digital media place. Apparently he climbed the corporate ladder thanks to curiosity and the people he met along the way. He wasn't chasin' fancy job titles just focused on who he was working for. Makes you wonder if Zapp Brannigan ever got any actual work done or just focused on his celebrity status. At least I can say I care more about my crew than any promotion!
Train Your Brain: Curiosity Is the New Black
Some fancy pants psychologist Tomas Chamorro Premuzic says you can train yourself to be more curious. Set aside 20 30 minutes to learn a new skill research a topic or pick someone's brain about their career. Excuses like not having time or being in a boring job are just that: excuses. It’s like Fry saying he can’t learn to play the Holophonor because he’s too busy… well being Fry. But the article says there’s nothin’ stoppin’ us from harnessing our curiosity! Just gotta prioritize learnin' and new experiences like trying a new flavour of Bachelor Chow... or not.
The Interview Questions That Really Matter: Sourdough Edition
Neuroscientist Juliette Han suggests askin' yourself 'What are you good at?' and 'What do you enjoy doing?' to figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Indeed CEO Chris Hyams even asks simple questions like that during interviews. One guy can talk about sourdough for 45 minutes! Apparently that intense curiosity is more important than a resume. If only MomCorp thought that way I might not be stuck piloting this rust bucket. Though I have gotten quite skilled at parallel parking it...
Change Your Career Change Your Life (Maybe)
So if you’re lookin’ for a higher paying more flexible or fulfilling career CNBC has this course. It's like boot camp but instead of learnin' to pilot a spaceship you learn' to network and revamp your resume. Maybe I should sign up but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one qualified for this job at Planet Express. So I guess I will stay here with my one eye delivering packages all around the galaxy.

I'm definitely going to try setting aside time to learn something new each week.

I need to stop making excuses and start being more proactive about my career.
