The FTC's new rule aims to expose hidden hotel fees, but will it have the muscle to make a difference in a world full of 'greed is good'?
The FTC's new rule aims to expose hidden hotel fees, but will it have the muscle to make a difference in a world full of 'greed is good'?

First You Get the Money Then You Get the Power Then You Get the Transparency?

Alright listen up you punks. Tony Montana's here to tell you about this new rule from the government. They say it's gonna stop those slimy hotels from hitting you with those bullshit 'junk fees.' You know the ones that magically appear when you're just trying to enjoy your damn vacation. They call 'em 'resort fees,' 'destination fees' – I call 'em a fuckin' ripoff! But these politicians they talk about 'transparency.' Transparency like I give a fuck about seein' through their bullshit! They think puttin' it in print makes it okay? It's still stealin' eh?

The World is Yours... But Those Fees Ain't!

This rule it's supposed to make hotels show you all the fees upfront. Before you even book the room. Like 'Hey Mr. Bigshot you wanna use the pool? That's gonna be fifty bucks extra!' And I'm supposed to be happy about that? Nah I'd rather negotiate with a chainsaw. But the government thinks it's gonna help you make 'informed decisions.' Informed decisions? I make decisions based on how much money I can make not some stupid fine print!

Trump Card or Empty Threat?

Now here's the kicker. This professor lady Mansfield she's worried that the Trump administration is gonna gut the people that are supposed to be enforcin' this rule. She says they might as well flush this whole thing down the toilet. “Rollback of existing protections where possible and absolutely no enforcement of rules. This means no protection at all for consumers,” she says. Basically these politicians are too busy fightin' each other to give a damn about you gettin' screwed over by some fancy hotel. Sounds about right.

Little Friend: Filing a Complaint

So what do you do when you get hit with these hidden fees? This Mansfield broad says you gotta complain. To the FTC to the CFPB to your state attorney general. Complain complain complain! Sounds like a lotta work eh? But she says if enough people bitch maybe just maybe these hotels will stop tryin' to screw us all. Maybe.

Social Media Showdown: Airing Your Dirty Laundry

She also said we could all go on social media and cry about it... I never thought that would be useful but hey might be good to let it out if you're feeling down after being robbed blind by these blood suckers. Maybe even start some TikTok challenge? Call it "How to NOT Get Fleeced by Hotels" or something? I don't know I'm not a freakin' influencer. All I know is make sure the world knows what these crooks are doing.

Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys?

So this new rule... is it gonna change anything? Maybe. Maybe not. But remember what I always say: 'Every day above ground is a good day.' And every dollar you save by not gettin' ripped off by these hotel fees is a dollar you can use to buy somethin' useful. Like a machine gun. Or a really nice suit. Either way stay sharp and don't let nobody take you for a ride. You got that? Good. Now get the hell outta here.

I'm with Tony. Buy a machine gun and solve the problem yourself!

Transparency is a joke. They'll just hide the fees somewhere else.
