The Butcher of Blaviken and the Butcher of the Market
Hmm winds howling. Seems like someone's stirring up trouble again. Heard it from a reliable source – the tavern gossip of course – that President Trump is at it again threatening tariffs on the EU. Fifty percent they say! Even Roach nearly choked on her oats when I told her. Apparently the Dow Jones took a tumble worse than I do after a long night at the Passiflora. Stocks are dropping faster than a griffin hit by Aard.
Apple a Day Keeps the Witcher Away?
And not just the EU mind you. Apple's also in the soup. Trump wants a 25% levy on iPhones not made in the US. Seems a bit much even for a king. I've seen drowners with more economic sense. If I had a crown for every time a 'sure thing' investment turned sour I'd be richer than Emhyr var Emreis. Of course I'd probably pawn them for a few crowns and a decent ale.
Cave In or Cash Out?
Some say Trump's just playing poker bluffing with tariffs. 'He'll cave,' they say. 'It's all part of the game.' Maybe. But I've seen enough monsters to know that sometimes a beast just wants to bite. The market's already nervous bouncing around like a noonwraith in broad daylight. And let's not even mention the bond yields...scarier than a basilisk I tell you!
Burned By the Dip
The real problem is that investors are getting tired. They 'buy the dip,' then Trump pulls the rug out from under them. It's a 'tariff rollercoaster' as one fellow Mitchell Goldberg put it. Makes me think of all those times I've trusted a smiling merchant only to find out his 'bargain' was cursed. Fool me once shame on you; fool me a hundred times I need a new profession.
Nvidia: Savior or Siren?
Now there's talk of Nvidia saving the day. Apparently if they have a good earnings report the tech sector might rally. Hmph. Sounds like a gamble to me. Relying on one company to pull the whole market out of the muck? That's like expecting Roach to fly. Still could be worth keeping an eye on. Perhaps a well placed potion could boost their numbers... just kidding! Mostly.
The Week Ahead: More Trouble Brewing?
The week ahead is full of economic reports and potential pitfalls. Durable Orders Consumer Confidence FOMC Minutes... sounds like a witch's brew of boredom and potential disaster. I'd rather fight a Leshen than sift through all that. But hey maybe there's a contract in it for me somewhere. 'Geralt of Rivia Monster Hunter and Market Analyst.' Has a ring to it doesn't it?
