A Witcher's Take on Tragedy
Right so I'm Geralt of Rivia. Witcher. Monster hunter. And occasional eavesdropper on the woes of mortal men. Seems lately these 'CEOs' are mucking things up something fierce. Heard about this Air India crash. Nasty business. Two hundred and sixty souls gone. The CEO this Campbell Wilson spouts some apology. Then the whispers start comparing it to another fella some American Airlines bloke named Robert Isom. Like they're reading from the same damn scroll. Reminds me of contracts written by mages – loopholes galore and a hidden 'gotcha' at the end.
Timing is Everything Even When Slaying a Leshen
This 'Lorraine K. Lee,' a speaker of words apparently knows a thing or two. She says timing is key. Too slow and you look like you couldn't care less. Too fast and you spew out nonsense. Sounds like fighting a Leshen. Wait for the right moment strike with purpose. No point in waving your sword around like a drunken fool. As the saying goes 'When the time of axe and sword is nigh the time of the White Frost is nigh.' Unless it's a metaphor for bad corporate decisions. Then it's just a time for damage control.
Taking Responsibility: Not Just for Witchers Anymore
Taking responsibility that's the core of it. Something these leaders have trouble with. You mess up you own it. Don't hide in your tower like some reclusive mage hoping the problem vanishes. I've learned that lesson dealing with cursed princesses and power hungry kings. Hiding never solves anything. 'Evil is evil Stregobor,' I often say. 'Lesser greater middling makes no difference. The degree is arbitary. The definition blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another then I prefer not to choose at all.' But when it comes to taking responsibility there is no choice. You take it or you pay the price.
Empathy? Is That a New Elixir?
Empathy. Now there's a word I don't hear often enough. Seems it's just as rare amongst the pointy eared folk as it is amongst the suits. This Lee woman says you gotta be human. Show emotion. Not like some dull golem reading lines from a scroll. Reminds me of Dandelion trying to woo a duchess. All flowery words but no heart. Doesn't fool anyone except maybe the duchess. I've seen wooden acting from traveling players in Novigrad that had more sincerity.
The CEO is a Brand? Since When?
Apparently some folks think these CEOs aren't even writing their own apologies. They've got scribes like that Karthik Srinivasan crafting their words. 'People want to hear from the leader not the brand,' Lee says. Makes sense. Who wants to hear from a logo? I'd rather listen to a talking Roach. At least she has opinions mostly about oats and the proper direction to travel.
Final Thoughts: A Witcher's Wisdom (and a Sales Pitch)
So the lesson here? Own your mistakes be human and for the love of Melitele write your own damn apologies. And if you're buying a house? Apparently there's a course for that. I wouldn't know. I live on the Path. Though a nice little cottage in Toussaint does sound appealing... if the monsters keep away. Toss a coin to your house hunter I suppose. It's not much but it's honest work.
