A Witcher's Guide to Trade Wars (and Profits!)

Right so I'm Geralt witcher. Usually I'm dealing with drowners and griffins not...economics. But Roach needed new horseshoes and apparently slaying monsters doesn't pay as well as 'content creation' these days. So China. Seems their factories are still humming along despite the Emperor...err President Trump tossing tariffs around like Yen's potions. Apparently their industrial profits are up. Not a bad coin to start with I guess. Maybe Yen should learn from it.

Tariffs? Bah! China Finds a Way.

They say Trump slapped a 145% tariff on their goods. Sounds like a monster from the Wild Hunt doesn't it? But surprise surprise the Chinese found other markets. Like a clever ghoul finding a new graveyard. Though I still question the 145% tariff. Sounds a lot like some of those numbers that Dijkstra comes up with when we gamble. Someone should keep an eye on that shady Redanian.

Beijing's Helping Hand (or Is It a Griffon Claw?)

Turns out Beijing's been tossing coin at their businesses. 'Policy interventions,' they call it. Sounds suspiciously like bribery but what do I know? Point is it seems to be working. High tech manufacturing is booming biopharmaceutical stuff and even…aircraft. I'd rather trust Roach to get me across the Pontar than some Chinese contraption though. At least she only throws me off when she feels like it.

Mining Woes and Appliance Windfalls

Not all sunshine and rainbows though. The mining sector is taking a hit. Probably ran out of dwarves willing to work the shafts. Meanwhile those household appliance fellas are swimming in coin. Apparently everyone's trading in their old junk for new junk. Sounds like Novigrad's market square on a busy day.

State vs. Private: The Eternal Struggle

The state owned companies? Not doing so hot. Shocker. But private and foreign owned businesses are doing better. Reminds me of the constant squabbling between Temeria and Nilfgaard. Someone’s always trying to take what the other has. Apparently coins are the root of all evil in this case. Who would have thought.

The Witcher's Conclusion (aka It's Complicated)

So there you have it. China's economy is a mess but it's doing...okay? Tariffs are bad but not *that* bad? It's as clear as mud after a drowners' party. Insufficient demand declining prices uncertainty… sounds like my average Tuesday. Point is don't get too comfortable. As I always say 'Evil is evil. Lesser greater middling… Makes no difference.' This whole situation smells like a contract gone wrong. Maybe I should offer my services...for a hefty fee of course. Roach ain’t cheap.

Hmph. Witchers and economics...what's next, sorceresses running taverns?
