Another Fine Mess

Medallion's hummin' and not because of a nearby drowners. Seems Meta that big cheese peddlin' digital whatchamacallits has decided to swing the layoff axe at their Reality Labs. You know the blokes tryin' to convince everyone that strapping a brick to their face and flailin' about is the future of… somethin'. Call it a hunch but somethin' tells me this whole metaverse thing is startin' to look like a striga without the charm.

Oculus Down Spirits Low

Word is Oculus Studios the fellas responsible for VR games and all that jazz got hit particularly hard. Apparently "shifts in structure and roles" is code for 'pack your bags and good luck on the Path you'll need it'. Even the blokes workin' on that Supernatural VR workout app got the boot. I suppose punchin' imaginary ghouls isn't as profitable as they thought. Guess they should have hired a Witcher. We keep the monster population down that's job security.

The Price of Dreams (and Goggles)

Now I ain't one for numbers but even I can see that losin' nearly five billion crowns while only rakin' in a measly one billion is bad business. That's like tryin' to pay Roach's vet bill with pocket lint. Maybe they should have invested in some decent steel instead of these fancy goggles. You can't slay a griffin with pixels you know.

Lowest Performers? Or Wrong Investments?

Meta already gave the heave ho to 5% of their workforce back in February claimin' they were the "lowest performers." Funny seems like the real low performance was believin' everyone would abandon reality for a cheap imitation. As I always say "Evil is evil Stregobor. Lesser greater middling… Makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary. The definition’s blurred. If I’m to choose between one evil and another then I prefer not to choose at all." Unless it’s a choice between a real monster and a virtual one. I’ll take the real deal every time.

Zuckerberg on Trial: Witch Hunt or Justice?

And to top it all off Zuckerberg himself is on the stand facing antitrust charges. Seems like even the most powerful can't escape the long arm of the law. Or maybe he just needs to find a good quen sign? Either way I wouldn't want to be in his boots right now. Though I suppose he could always escape to his own metaverse... unless that gets shut down too.

The Path Forward: Back to Reality?

So what's the takeaway from all this? Maybe that chasing shiny distractions ain't the answer. Maybe folks are startin' to realize that real life with all its flaws and monsters is still better than any fabricated reality. Me? I'll stick to the Path huntin' genuine beasts and gettin' paid in real coin. At least I know where I stand. And besides no virtual reality headset can replicate the satisfaction of a perfectly brewed pint of ale after a hard day's work. Now if you'll excuse me I hear there's a ghoul nest needs clearin'… and a tavern that needs visitin'.

I feel bad for the people who lost their jobs, but yeah, maybe focus on reality.

Zuckerberg vs. Antitrust charges sounds more like a witcher contract. He's the monster.
