Groovy! Ditching the USA One Country at a Time

Alright ladies and gentlemen Duke's here to drop some knowledge bombs. So you're tired of the same old same old? Wanna trade that cubicle for a castle? I feel ya. This broad Cepee Tabibian from She Hit Refresh figured out that Europe's where it's at for us Americans. And who am I to argue? I've blown up worse places than Texas and Europe's got way better beer. Let's see what she's cookin'.

Visa Cost of Living and... Do They Like Us?

So Cepee's got a checklist for picking your Euro escape: Visa options (duh!) cost of living (Gotta save some cash for cigars and babes!) cultural openness (Do they dig Americans or are they gonna give you the stink eye?) a solid expat community (Misery loves company right?) and language (Can you order a beer without sounding like a total tool?). Sounds simple enough but remember: 'Nobody steals our freedom!' and nobody wants to end up broke and alone in a foreign country. Now let's check out these hotspots.

Spain: Where the Sun Shines and the Sangria Flows

First up it's Spain! "Come get some!" Digital nomad visas cheap healthcare and a social scene that's all about chilling with your amigos. Plus according to this Cepee dame even if you're shaking up the norms like leaving your corporate job to go freelance in Malaga you can find a community and feel right at home. Watch out for those overtouristed spots like Barcelona though. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Portugal: Laid Back Living Expat Style

Next we got Portugal or as I like to call it "Paradise Found!" Laid back vibes English speakers everywhere and easy visas. They even got a D7 visa for you lazy asses who just wanna live off your passive income. Just like Spain watch out for tourism in the major cities. Sounds like a sweet place to kick back relax and maybe blow up a few alien tourists... metaphorically speaking of course.

France: Baguettes Berets and Blowing Stuff Up (Figuratively)

Ah France... the land of love croissants and questionable mimes. This chick Mary Alice Duff traded Philly for Southern France and now bikes to the beach and parties with an international crowd. Sounds groovy. France has good healthcare and lots of kids if you're into that sort of thing even with the lack of a digital nomad visa. But you can get a libérale visa if you're self employed and want to work from France.

The Netherlands: Windmills Weed and Work Permits?

The Netherlands! Everyone speaks English there's bike paths everywhere and they're cool with entrepreneurs. Got a Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT) visa so if you're self employed you're golden. But housing is a bitch to find! Denise Segler in her 50s just moved there and finds the Dutch friendly. So if you're divorced over 50 and ready to start over Holland might be your spot.

Albania: Cheap Living Killer Beaches!

Last but not least Albania! You can stay for a year without a visa it's cheap as hell and everyone speaks English in the capital. Plus the Albanian Riviera's got beaches that'll make your jaw drop. Sounds like a good place to chill for a bit before moving on to bigger and better things. Kinda like kicking back after a hard day of saving the world.

Time to Kick Ass and Chew Bubblegum… Abroad!

So there you have it folks! Five countries where you can escape the American grind and live like a king... or a Duke at least. Just remember learn the language respect the culture and don't be afraid to take the leap. As Cepee says the only regret most people have is not doing it sooner. Now get out there and make me proud! "It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all outta gum."
