A Millennial and Gen Z Financial Reality Check: Are We All Just Living to 'Break Even'?

Like Is the Middle Class Cancelled?

Okay dolls lemme tell you I saw this article and I was like shook. Apparently the American Dream is playing hard to get! This economist Freddie Smith is saying the middle class is basically dead for millennials and Gen Z. Dead! Like is that even *allowed*? He says you need to be making like over six figures just to live a *basic* life. That's like my monthly glam budget! JK... kinda. But seriously it's rough out there.

Living at 'Break Even' is NOT a Vibe

This other CEO lady Rachel Schneider says a bunch of Americans are living 'at break even.' Which like sounds stressful AF. They're making enough to cover bills but one emergency hits and BAM! They're behind. It's giving me anxiety just thinking about it. Imagine not being able to afford a last minute trip to Turks and Caicos! *Gasp*.

Housing Healthcare...Even Just Existing is Expensive!

And it's not getting any cheaper fam! Housing healthcare insurance...everything's going up. It's like they're trying to bankrupt us just for like breathing! Back in the day things were easier. Now we gotta save for our *own* retirements? As if adulting wasn't hard enough already. This is why I have like 50 businesses! Gotta hustle to maintain this lifestyle y'all!

Don't Blame the Lifestyle Blame the System!

Okay and here's the kicker. Older people are blaming the youngins for spending too much! Like excuse me but it's not our fault! Experts are saying it's a *structural* problem not a *behavioral* one. It's harder to save for the American Dream than it was for our parents grandparents and so on. Remember that! Don't be blaming the wrong generation for not buying enough things they cannot even afford!

Feeling the Shame? It's NOT You Boo!

This professor Joanne Hsu from the University of Michigan said that young people feel so ashamed and distressed when financial lives are not going smoothly and this other CEO Rachel Schneider continues by saying it is not due to anything they have done or could have done differently. Exactly! So like stop beating yourself up about it! It's not your fault the system is rigged! But we must not use this as an excuse gotta do what you gotta do.

Adapting is the New Aesthetic

So what are we gonna do about it? Well young Americans are adapting. Living with their parents longer sharing childcare building communities. We're getting creative! Because let's be real we're all in this together. The American Dream might be a little delusional right now but we're gonna find a way to make our *own* dreams come true. Even if that means sharing a nanny and raiding my mom's closet! LOL. Now if you'll excuse me I have a Skims meeting. Gotta keep that coin flowin'!
