Geralt of Rivia reports on JetBlue Airways' cost-cutting measures as travel demand dips, leaving the airline grappling for profitability. Sounds like a monster contract to me.

A Witcher's Eye View of High Flying Woes

Roach and I were just discussing the latest contracts when I heard the bards were singing a sorrowful tune about JetBlue. Seems their coffers aren't exactly overflowing like a freshly tapped keg in Novigrad. Joanna Geraghty their CEO is apparently telling the staff that breaking even this year is about as likely as me ordering a dandelion and burdock at the Passiflora. "Damn it all," as they say.

Borrowed Time Borrowed Coin

Geraghty's missive to the JetBlue ranks suggests they're relying on 'borrowed cash.' Sounds like a loan from Vimme Vivaldi himself. She hopes bookings rebound but even a 'recovery' won't be enough to offset this year's losses. Path to profit longer than aged wine eh? JetBlue higher ups are probably wishing they had a Witcher's sign to conjure up some coin.

Routes Cut Like a Striga's Claws

JetBlue plans to axe off peak flights and 'unprofitable routes.' Sounds like a monster hunt where the monsters are the routes losing them coin. They're pausing interior upgrades on four of their older Airbus A320s too parking 'em like old nags. Six others are still scheduled for refurbishment. Priorities eh? Sometimes you have to choose between a new sword and a round of Gwent.

Hiring on Hold: A Witcher's Job Security

Hiring plans are under review and there's talk of merging leadership roles and curbing travel spending. Reminds me of Kaer Morhen after a long winter. I hope the front line employees will be alright. Everyone needs a coin especially with those Nilfgaardian interest rates. I have to say I sympathize although I'm pretty sure this is the part where everyone starts hating on Geralt.

Farewell Fares: Bargain Bin Bargains

Domestic travel bookings are weaker than expected and airfares are down. According to the U.S. Department of Labor airfare in May was down 7.3% compared with last year. Perhaps travelers are finding it cheaper to take Roach. He has complained that it costs him crowns in horseshoes.

United We Fly Divided We Fall?

The Spirit Airlines deal went down like a lead balloon and the Northeast alliance with American Airlines was blocked in 2023. The airline announced a partnership with United Airlines allowing customers to book flights on each other's airline and earn/use frequent flyer programs. I hear the airline continues its plan to outfit planes with domestic first class and build airport lounges. "These are the building blocks of a stronger JetBlue and they remain in motion," says Geraghty. Let's hope she's right.
