Another Bloody Mess...

Right then gathered 'round you lot. Geralt of Rivia here back from slaying monsters only to find... well more monsters but of the economic kind. Seems this Trump fella President of this 'United States,' is on a tariff spree. Tariffs you say? Think of it like a bounty on goods. Makes 'em cost more. This one's slapping 'em on almost every country and China's already spitting venom back. Makes you wonder if he's swallowed a Noonwraith. Signs point to yes. As I always say 'Evil is evil. Lesser greater middling… Makes no difference.' Whether it’s a griffin or a global trade war both can ruin your Sunday.

Trump's Magical Incantations

So how's he pulling this off? Claims it's some kinda 'national emergency.' Using laws like the 'International Emergency Economic Powers Act.' Fancy name for 'I can do what I want because I said so.' Sounds a bit like a power hungry mage to me. I've seen enough of those to last a lifetime. He says these tariffs are to protect the US economy. Right. And I'm a striga whisperer. First president to use this law for tariffs apparently. Well there's always a first time for everything... usually ends with someone shouting 'Medallion's humming!' I just hope it's not my coin purse that starts singing next because of these taxes.

Constitutional Conundrum

Now here's where it gets interesting. Apparently this 'Congress' bunch is supposed to be in charge of taxes and tariffs. Written in some old book called the 'Constitution.' But they kinda... delegated the power to the President. Bit like letting a drowners guard a fish farm eh? They thought it was too much of a hassle after some economic doom and gloom to make the decisions themselves. So they gave him a blade and now he's swinging it like a wild berserker.

The Congress Strikes Back? (Maybe)

And now? Some of these 'congressmen' are finally getting the jitters. Stocks are falling faster than a rock troll down a mountain. Some are trying to put the brakes on Trump's tariff train. They want to give Congress more say. One of them even said Trump is using a 'chainsaw' on the economy. Accurate description that is. Though I would've preferred referring to them as a Leshen... But will they actually do anything? Unlikely. Too busy arguing amongst themselves. 'Hmph. Politics' as I always say ‘It’s all horse shit’.

Veto Vexation

Here's the rub. Even if these Congress critters manage to pass something Trump can just say 'nope' with a 'veto'. And since his own party controls the House and Senate they probably won't overturn it. So it's all a bit like fighting a Chort with a butter knife. Pointless if you ask me. But who asks a Witcher anything useful eh? Remember kids if you are going to pick a fight with the biggest monster in the world bring a silver sword and a Potion of Blizzard!

The Legal Labyrinth

Alright if Congress won't act maybe the courts will. Some folks are arguing Trump's tariff power grab is illegal. That this emergency law ain't meant for slapping tariffs on everyone. Could be a real threat to Trump. But even the legal eagles say the President has a lot of wiggle room. So maybe this legal challenge will work maybe not. Sounds like a job for Lambert... I'm out of here.
