Groovy News People!
Alright you primitive screwheads listen up! Duke Nukem here reporting live from the front lines of the war against… wait for it… JUNK FEES! Yeah those sneaky little charges hotels try to stick you with. You know the ones that make you say "What the hell is a 'destination fee'?" Time to kick some ass and chew bubblegum… and I’m all outta gum.
FTC Says: Time to Pay Up… Honestly!
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) just dropped a new rule that's gonna make those hotel bigwigs think twice. Starting Monday they gotta be upfront about all those 'resort,' 'destination,' or 'hospitality service' fees. They try to sell you this crap like 'premium internet' – as if my internet isn't already premium baby – and access to a gym. I'd rather lift weights with alien corpses thank you very much.
Trump Card Fumbled? Not on My Watch!
Now some pencil pushing professor from Case Western Reserve Law School Cathy Mansfield is worried that the Trump administration’s attempts to neuter the FTC and CFPB will make this rule about as effective as a screen door on a spaceship. She thinks they're gonna roll back consumer protections faster than I can reload my shotgun. But don't you worry your pretty little heads. Even if the bureaucrats are slacking Duke's got your back.
No Comment? We'll See About That!
Chris Mufarrige from the FTC is saying they're gonna keep fighting the good fight. And apparently Trump also wants to crack down on ticket fees. Seems like even the bigwigs are starting to realize that ripping off the little guy is a bad idea. The CFPB however didn't respond to requests for comment... probably too busy counting their ill gotten gains. But that is just my opinion.
Transparency is Key Baby!
Some poor sap named Laurent Bacinski got nailed with a surprise $500 deposit in NYC with 'destination fees' eating into it. He was forced to buy services he didn't need. The new FTC rule aims to stop this crap by making sure these fees are disclosed upfront. As Mansfield puts it transparency is the key. If you can see the full price you can make a better choice. Wise words for a change even if they aren't coming from my mouth. But it is time to kick ass!
Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease… and Maybe a Nuke!
Lauren Wolfe from Travelers United says some hotels are already cleaning up their act. Even Airbnb is showing fees upfront. Plus there's a bill in Congress that might actually pass! It looks like everyone agrees: hidden hotel fees are BS. If you get hit with 'em complain to the FTC the CFPB your state Attorney General. And if all else fails rant about it on social media. Sometimes you gotta be a squeaky wheel or you know just call Duke. I'll bring the heavy artillery.
