Gravy Train or Gravy Trap?
Alright Morty buckle up. Looks like the big cheese Trump is playing some interdimensional chess with... energy? Apparently he's put a 'pause' on slapping everyone with tariffs except for China because you know reasons. But here's the kicker: if countries like the EU Japan and South Korea want to avoid getting tariffed into next Tuesday they gotta buy a whole lotta American energy. I'm talking about enough to make even *me* question the stability of the space time continuum.
350 Billion Schmickles?!
Trump in his infinite wisdom (and I use that term loosely Morty) is demanding the EU cough up $350 billion for American energy to uh 'erase' the trade surplus. Says he can 'knock off' that much in a week. Yeah sure just like I can build a portal gun with spare toaster parts. Oh wait I *can*. But still that's a *lot* of cheddar Morty. A *lot* of cheddar. You know what I am saying?!
Largest Oil and Gas Producer Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!
Now I gotta give the guy *some* credit. The U.S. *is* the top dog when it comes to oil and gas production and number one in liquid natural gas (LNG) export! All because of…uh…burp…capitalism. Hey Morty you remember that time we turned into pickles to avoid family therapy? Good times. But this energy thing? It's either going to be a global win win or a complete s**tshow! It's one or the other for sure.
Alaska: The Next Frontier (for Energy Domination)
The Treasury Secretary is pimping out the Alaskan LNG project like it's the next big thing. Apparently Japan South Korea and Taiwan might throw some cash at it in exchange for a sweet LNG deal. According to the article it is going to create jobs. Jobs Morty! You know those things people do to avoid going on adventures with their grandpa.
Show Me the Money!
So Trump's been on this LNG kick since day one bless his tiny misguided heart. He even signed an executive order on his first day to prioritize LNG development in Alaska. The proposed Alaska LNG project is supposed to transport natural gas from the state's North Slope through an 807 mile pipeline south to a liquefaction facility at Nikiski on the Cook Inlet for export to Asia. So I guess we will see if this gamble will pay off big time in the future. Fingers crossed Morty!
Major Purchasers They're Already Buying!
Okay so here's the kicker Morty. The EU Japan and South Korea are *already* buying U.S. LNG. Like a significant chunk of it. The EU bought almost 40% of our LNG exports in 2024 followed by Japan at 7% South Korea at 6% and India at 5%. So is Trump trying to squeeze more juice from an already juicy orange? Or is this just some elaborate scheme to distract us from I don't know interdimensional cable reruns? Either way I'm gonna need a drink... and maybe a portal gun.
