A Coin Toss in the Clothing Trade
Damn another day another contract... err news report. Seems H&M the clothiers are feeling a bit optimistic. Like a bard after a successful tavern gig they're boasting about a 3% sales bump in June. Shares are up but not enough to buy me a decent horse. Still better than staring down a griffin with a rusty sword. They're whispering about an 'uptick in demand' to kick start the summer. I could use some new armor maybe they have a sale? Though I doubt it.
Uncertain Times Uncertain Threads
They call it 'uncertain times'. I know a thing or two about that. Monsters lurking in the shadows kings playing their games... and now price sensitive shoppers. H&M admits folks are being careful with their coin like a witcher eyeing a suspiciously cheap contract. Can't say I blame them. A man's got to eat and apparently so does his wardrobe. They mentioned U.S. trade tariffs but kept their cards close. Like a sorceress with a secret spell they're 'closely monitoring developments'. Let's hope they don't need a witcher to sort that mess out.
Price Hikes: Now That's a Nice Surprise!
Ah price hikes. Just what everyone wants. "We are starting to see some competitors increasing prices and this is something we are of course looking into to ensure we remain competitive," their CEO says. So follow the leader eh? Reminds me of Dandelion trying to out sing a siren... rarely ends well. They're blaming it on tariffs and costs. As if silver swords grow on trees! They better not start charging extra for bigger sizes or I'll have to start hunting monsters in my underwear.
Made in Asia Sold in the West
The US is their second largest market. And they depend on production in Asia. Everyone depends on Asia! Except Gwent. Even I know this. Tariffs are a headache; it's always the same. One thing goes wrong and the working man has to pay the ultimate price. They say that they have good flexibility in the supply chain so we'll see. What's this supposed to mean?
Revenues and Regrets
Revenues down sales a bit sluggish. Seems even the fashion world isn't immune to a bit of bad luck. Operating profit is down blaming it on expensive dollars and freight costs. Well tell me about it. Roach doesn't run on cheap hay you know? I bet I can go to Oxenfurt right now and purchase a nice suit that does not cost me an arm and a leg.
Closures and New Beginnings
Closing 200 stores opening 80. A tale as old as time. Like a contract gone sour they're cutting losses and seeking new opportunities. They're blaming increased competition from cheaper rivals. "Hmmm." Lower cost retailers are dangerous because they may be using magic... The world keeps turning and so does the wheel of fortune or misfortune. As always... Best not to get involved.
