Toss a Coin to Your Witcher... and Netflix Shareholders?
Right so I've been asked to weigh in on this Netflix business. Seems they've been raking in the coin more than even their mages predicted. Apparently their revenue hit $10.54 billion this last quarter. Billion mind you! Makes a witcher's contract look like pocket change. 'Hmmm,' as I always say. But is it all as shiny as a Griffin's hoard?
Price Hikes: The Doppler Effect on Your Wallet
They say the better than expected revenue is due to subscriptions and ads but let's be honest it's the price hikes. Standard plan jumps from $15.49 to $17.99? They're testing the waters seeing how much they can bleed us dry before we start pirating again. Kinda reminds me of haggling with a merchant in Novigrad – always gotta be wary of the Doppler changing his face as he picks your pocket.
Numbers Go Up! Or Do They?
Earnings per share at $6.61 exceeding estimates of $5.71... Revenue at $10.54 billion instead of the expected $10.52 billion... Sounds impressive doesn't it? Makes me wonder if I should've taken up accounting instead of monster hunting. Less blood probably more gold. Though I suspect these numbers are as reliable as a politician's promise.
Subscribers? Who Needs 'Em?
Now this is where it gets interesting. Netflix decided to stop reporting quarterly subscriber data. Shifting focus to revenue they say. Sounds like they're hiding something. Like a Leshen burying its prey. Smart move or a sign of trouble brewing? Only time will tell. But mark my words there's always a monster in the fine print.
Trump's Trade Policy: Blame it on the President!
And of course we can't forget the obligatory mention of President Trump's trade policy slamming traditional media companies. Always someone to blame eh? Still one has to wonder what kind of monster roams this White House? Probably one that only gold can wound.
The Witcher's Verdict: Tread Carefully
So what's the verdict? Netflix is doing well for now. But be wary of the price hikes the hidden subscriber numbers and the shifting blame game. As a Witcher I've learned that things are rarely as they seem. 'Evil is evil Stregobor,' said I but perhaps Netflix is merely chaotic neutral.
