The China Squeeze: A Wake Up Call or a Blinder?
Right so the Chinese they’re playing their usual game with these rare earth elements. Tightening the screws causing a bit of a ruckus in the markets. Goyal calls it a wake up call? More like a bloody blinder catching everyone off guard. Auto manufacturers from Bombay to Berlin are feeling the pinch. It's always the same isn't it? Someone always wants more than their fair share. But as my mother said and she wasn't always right but when she was she was right: 'Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.'
India's Rare Earth Stash: Buried Treasure or Fool's Gold?
Now India's sitting on a fair bit of this rare earth muck – third largest reserves they say. Like finding a tenner in an old coat isn’t it? But reserves ain't worth a damn if you can’t pull 'em out of the ground and make 'em useful. It's like having a field full of horses and no bloody saddles. They need to get their act together mining processing the whole shebang. No point in having the cards if you can't play the game. And we Shelbys always play to win. And like I always say 'everyone's a whore Grace. We just sell different parts of ourselves.'
India Rare Earths: Government's Golden Goose or a Dead Duck?
This India Rare Earths a government outfit eh? Founded back in '50. Could be a good partner for the Yanks apparently. No Chinese investment which is a start. But government run… That can be like wading through treacle. Needs a shot in the arm some proper investment maybe a Shelby Company Limited touch to get it moving. As my brother Arthur says 'Right. The guns. Where are they?' But right now we need more than just guns.
The National Critical Mineral Mission: A Prayer or a Plan?
They've launched some mission in 2025 aiming for self reliance. Sounds good on paper but paper doesn’t build factories or dig up the bloody earth. Experts reckon it’ll take a fortune. The government's got to put its money where its mouth is and fast. And so does the private sector. Without it India's just whistling in the wind. Like I've said before 'Whiskey's good proofing water. Tells you who's real and who isn't.'
Private Sector to the Rescue? A Gamble Worth Taking.
Rumours are floating about private sector collaborations incentives subsidies. Smart move if they play their cards right. Get some proper talent in there cut through the red tape. It's all about speed innit? The Chinese aren't gonna sit still and watch. India might not replace China but they can certainly make a name for themselves. Question is will they seize the opportunity or let it slip through their fingers like sand? Still I believe 'we're a family and families don't break apart'.
Begging at Beijing's Door: A Matter of Time?
In the meantime they're sending a delegation to China begging for import approvals. Pathetic really. Should be building their own empire not sucking up to the competition. But that's politics for you. A messy business best left to the politicians. Me? I’m more interested in the long game. The rare earth game. And like I always say 'I don't pay for suits. My suits are on the house or the house burns down'.
