A Viking's take on the recent stock market volatility and the uncertainty surrounding trade tariffs, questioning whether even the gods can predict the economic seas.

The Gods Must Be Crazy (About These Tariffs)!

By Odin's beard! I've seen calmer seas in a storm than this Wall Street you speak of. One day they feast on a pause in tariffs like it's a flagon of ale the next they're emptying their longships of all goods! This Trump fellow he pauses the tariffs yes but like a shield wall that breaks after a single axe blow. Is this what passes for strategy these days? Even Bjorn Ironside would be face palming in Valhalla!

Volatile Seas Ahead!

This 'Cboe Volatility Index,' sounds like a weapon the Franks would use. Spiking above 40 you say? Back in my day a spike above 40 meant a good shield was needed. Now it just means men in suits are wringing their hands. This 'uncertainty,' as they call it is a curse! It makes men afraid to spend their coin afraid to build afraid to raid! Where's the glory in that? As I once said 'I want something to believe in!'

Trump's Game of Chicken with China?

This Chris Senyek the 'Wolfe Research chief investment strategist,' he speaks of a 'policy stance change.' Hah! More like a wobbly drunkard trying to stay upright. This 90 day period is but a blink of an eye! And these tariffs on China now at 145%? That's like trying to drain the ocean with a leaky bucket! As Floki would say 'The gods are laughing!'

When Trade Volumes Plunge into the Abyss...

Michael Gapen from 'Morgan Stanley' speaks of 'dramatic decline in trade volumes.' A wise observation like the Seer's prophecies. A 'non linear threshold,' he calls it. I call it foolishness! To anger one of your largest trade partners is like poking a sleeping bear with a twig. You might get away with it once but the bear will eventually wake up and then you'll have a proper fight on your hands. And believe me that bear has claws!

Negotiations: A Viking's Favorite Pastime (NOT!)

Negotiations with individual countries! More likely to be a constant headache. Trump says 'we'll have to see what happens.' Hah! Such decisiveness! It reminds me of King Aelle trying to decide whether to throw me into a pit of snakes. He 'had to see what happens,' didn't he? And look how well that turned out for him! 'Power is only given to those who are prepared to lower themselves to pick it up,' I've always said.

Uncertainty Breeds Fear and Tight Wallets!

This 'retrenchment mode' Gapen speaks of – it's like the long winter months when everyone huddles around the fire hoarding what little food they have. 'Hire less spend less save more.' Is this the life of a Viking? Nay! We raid we conquer we feast! Uncertainty is a disease that rots the spirit. Maybe I should sail to this New York Stock Exchange and show them a thing or two about seizing opportunity. After all 'How little they know of the Vikings!'
