Oil and Gas in My ESG Portfolio! You Won't Believe What Goldman Sachs Said!

Life is Like a Box of Fossil Fuels...

Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get. Well lately it feels like that box is filled with… oil and gas! Some folks at Goldman Sachs are saying that maybe just maybe ESG investors that's them folks who care 'bout the environment and stuff should start lookin' at oil and gas companies again. I gotta tell ya that sounds like puttin' chocolate and shrimp together. Doesn't seem quite right does it?

Stupid is as Stupid Burns...

Now I'm not a smart man but I know what burning fossil fuels does. It makes things hot! And the world is gettin' hotter than a jalapeno in July. These scientists keep sayin' we gotta stop burnin' so much stuff but then Mr. Della Vigna at Goldman Sachs says 'Hold your horses! We need that oil and gas 'til way later!' He says we won't hit peak oil demand 'til the mid 2030s! That's like tellin' Bubba Gump Shrimp we need more shrimp even though the boat's already full!

Run Forrest Run… to Renewable Energy!

Mr. Della Vigna he's got a point though. He says those oil and gas companies they're puttin' some money into those low carbon gizmos. Like tryin' to catch bullets with a ping pong paddle but still they're tryin'! And he says we need them to keep makin' energy affordable especially for folks who ain't got much. Otherwise everyone's gonna be cold and hungry and that ain't right is it?

And That's All I Have to Say About That

But then this other lady Ida Kassa Johannesen from Saxo Bank she's shakin' her head. She's sayin' 'Just 'cause we're lookin' at defense companies differently doesn't mean we gotta hug oil and gas!' She's right seeing those glaciers melt and the oceans gettin' all riled up is like watchin' Jenny run away all over again. Heartbreaking it is.

One Less Thing

This other fella Allen Good says maybe if those oil companies start investin' in clean energy like a whole lotta then maybe just maybe ESG folks might give 'em a second look. Sort of like givin' Lt. Dan another chance after he lost his legs. Redemption ya know?

I'm Not a Smart Man But I Know What Love Is

So I don't know who's right. Maybe it's like Mama said 'You gotta put the past behind you before you can move on.' But maybe the past is full of oil slicks and smog. I guess we gotta figure out how to love the world even if it's a little messy. And maybe that means givin' some oil companies a chance to clean up their act. But I sure hope they don't mess it up. 'Cause that's all I have to say about that.
