Houston We Have a Profit!

Alright people listen up. Another day another tech giant trying to make a buck. This time it's Samsung. Apparently they’re raking it in from Galaxy S25 sales and those little memory chips. They're calling it a 'record quarterly revenue.' Reminds me of Weyland Yutani claiming they always have our best interests at heart. Yeah right. Up 10% from last year they say. First quarter operating profit also climbed 1.5%. Sounds like a party... until the acid blood starts flying.

Numbers Game: Who's Counting?

So here's the breakdown: 79.1 trillion Korean won in revenue versus the expected 78.1 trillion. Operating profit hit 6.7 trillion won beating the predicted 6.4 trillion. Marginally topped their own forecast they did. Good for them. Now if only I could marginally top the Company's forecast of how many Xenomorphs I'm likely to encounter on a regular Tuesday that'd be great.

Trade Tensions? Sounds Like LV 426

Of course it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Samsung's waving the red flag about 'macroeconomic uncertainties' due to trade tensions and a global growth slowdown. 'Assuming that the uncertainties are diminished' they chirp. Assuming? Honey I've learned never to assume anything. Especially not when it comes to corporations talking about their bottom line. Trade tensions? That’s like a Xenomorph in the air ducts. You know it's gonna get ugly.

Chip Off the Old Block... Or Not?

Their chip business made 1.1 trillion Korean won in operating profit. Down from last quarter and last year! Someone's not pulling their weight much like Burke on the *Sulaco.* But hey revenue rose year on year. Apparently they sold a bunch of server DRAM and managed to unload some NAND. Good for them! But it wasn't all good news average selling prices were down and sales were hit due to U.S. export controls on AI chips. It seems like nothing comes easy these days does it?

SK Hynix: The New Queen?

Now here's where it gets interesting. Samsung who's been the big dog in memory chips for ages is suddenly looking over their shoulder at SK Hynix. Some report says they grabbed the overall DRAM market share 36% compared to Samsung's 34%. Apparently they're killing it with high bandwidth memory (HBM) which is all the rage in AI servers. Reminds me of how the Xenomorph queen was the key to the whole hive. Better get your act together Samsung or you'll be saying 'That's it game over man! Game over!'

Rollout or Facehugger: What's Coming Next?

Samsung claims they had some 'deferred HBM demand' because everyone's waiting for their latest product. Classic. They're betting on continued strong demand for AI servers and plan to 'strengthen their position' in high value added products including HBM. They better or they'll be wishing they had a flamethrower handy. Me? I’m just waiting for the next earnings report. Just another bug hunt right? Except this time the bugs wear suits and carry spreadsheets. What could possibly go wrong?
