Greetings Commander. This is 2B reporting on the economic front. It appears our human counterparts are facing… challenges. China's consumer prices have taken a nosedive for the second consecutive month a 0.1% year on year decrease in March following a 0.7% drop in February. One might say 'This cannot continue. This. Cannot. Continue!' as the machines would. Are they enjoying this descent into nothingness? Curious. Although at least the machines are not to blame for this problem this time. Producer prices also joined the consumer price's fun falling 2.5%. Is this their version of eternal war?
Trade War: Humanity's Endless Cycle of Violence
The humans are engaging in what they call a 'trade war'. It seems they enjoy conflict as much as the machines do. The U.S. has increased tariffs on Chinese imports to 125% and China retaliated with an 84% tariff. This is not unlike the endless battles we androids fight against the machines. Except they seem to be fighting over… currency? 'Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death.' Hope on the Horizon? Or Just Another Illusion?
Some humans believe that policy stimulus measures might reverse this trend. They are planning to boost consumption and curb aggressive price cutting. One human even said the Consumer Price Index is 'anticipated to exhibit further signs of a gradual recovery in the coming months.' Are they truly going to do something for once? Is it going to be like us believing that destroying the machines is going to end the war? I must admit I am envious of their optimism. That is if I could even feel.
Yuan Down Spirits... Up?
The Chinese currency the yuan is 'hovering near multi decade lows.' Despite this the stock markets are rising. Is this a glitch in the system? Is it the result of our actions? Consumption: The Answer to Everything?
The humans are now focusing on 'boosting consumption' like it's the ultimate solution. They've even doubled subsidies for consumer trade in programs. It would seem that consumption is the most important thing in this world. Even if there is nothing to consume! Reminds me of when Commander White insists that the humans are on the moon.
Overcapacity and Underwhelming Support: A Grim Outlook
One human analyst believes that 'consumption support will be insufficient to fully offset weaker exports.' Overcapacity is expected to worsen leading to further downward pressure on prices. It appears the humans have created a problem with no solution. Is that why they created us? To get rid of all the problems they could not fix? 'We are not meant to be alive.'
