Hmph the winds of change blow through every realm even the mundane world of regulatory agencies. Word reaches my fiery abode that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has gutted its Division of Learning and Organizational Development or DLOD. Apparently Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his quest to restructure the Department of Health and Human Services has decided that training is… expendable? Like those fools who dare challenge my might!
30 Souls Gone!
More than 30 souls… terminated! Cast into the abyss of unemployment. They say this DLOD was responsible for training both FDA staff and external health care professionals. Opioid safety infectious diseases even the mysteries of artificial intelligence in regulation—all gone vanished like a shadow in the Netherrealm! Is nothing sacred anymore?
Kennedy's FATALITY on Jobs
Kennedy is slashing 10,000 jobs at HHS! A veritable bloodbath! He claims it's to "streamline operations." Streamline? Is that what they call it now? I prefer a more… direct approach. Like my spear through a fool's chest. "Get over here!" and get terminated.
No Inspectors Cut? Liars!
HHS insists these cuts won't affect inspectors or reviewers of drugs medical devices and food. Lies! Deception! They say the same thing when they lure you into a false sense of security before a FATALITY! Reports suggest they are eliminating employees who protected public health such as top veterinarians overseeing the FDA's bird flu response amid outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows along with several recent human cases. Now that's what I call a poisoned spear!
Continuing Education? More Like Ceasing Education!
All planned activities canceled! No more scientific and regulatory education no more leadership development. They’re even scrapping the approval of continuing education programs. The FDA is losing a central resource that employees can go to for professional development and training. "With the removal of DLOD there's a great deal of uncertainty about how learners and professionals will adapt," one of the FDA employees said. "They are now responsible for independently finding and selecting their own courses which may result in confusion or inefficiency."
User Fees? More Like Loser Fees!
One office in the division was fully funded by so called user fees not taxpayer dollars according to the two FDA employees. The FDA collects those fees from companies that produce certain products like drugs and medical devices and from other entities such as certain certification bodies. The Trump administration has cited federal cost savings as part of its justification for laying off employees at HHS raising questions about why it targeted that unit. The office – known as the Continuing Education and Consultation Accreditation Team – was the only group within the FDA authorized to issue credits to both FDA employees and outside health care professionals the two employees said. The office included six workers all of whom will lose their jobs. The office was also the only "jointly accredited" unit within the FDA which means it was qualified to provide training across different health care disciplines the employee said. This truly is... unfortunate.
