Valhalla on a Budget?

By Odin's beard! It seems the Allfather himself is tightening the purse strings. They say this 'Social Security cost of living adjustment' for 2026 is shaping up to be smaller than a dwarf's axe. A measly 2.4% they whisper! It is barely enough to buy a round of drinks for my shieldmaidens let alone prepare for the long winter.

Inflation: The Serpent in Our Midst

Inflation that serpent is always slithering about trying to steal our hard earned treasures. These 'experts' claim tariffs those taxes on goods from foreign lands might make the serpent even bolder. If prices rise even my cleverest raids will not be enough to keep the hearth warm. They say 'Only those who dare truly live.' But how can one truly live when the cost of living is higher than the mountains of Kattegat?

Trump's Potion for Ailing Wallets

This 'President Trump' speaks of potions to lower the cost of those strange concoctions they call 'prescription drugs.' He aims to bring the prices down closer to what other lands pay. It is not expected to change the COLA. If this works maybe even an old Viking like me can afford to mend my battle scars without selling my longship. But like Floki says 'Belief is a choice.'

The Waiting Game

We are left to wait like ravens circling a battlefield. This 'Social Security Administration' will announce the final decree in October. Until then we must sharpen our axes prepare for any raid and hope that the gods favor us with a bountiful harvest... and maybe a slightly bigger COLA. I am pragmatic. I see things as they are...but that doesn't mean I can't hope for them to be better.

AARP and the Wisdom of the Elders

Even those old Vikings at 'AARP' are joining the fray fighting for lower drug prices. They say the elderly are paying too much. It is good to see that even in this strange land the wisdom of the elders is respected. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new saga a saga where the old are not forgotten. I trust my instincts. And my instincts tell me that it will not be easy.

The Gods Decide Our Fate

Ultimately it is the gods who decide our fate but that doesn't mean we shouldn't fight for a better one. Whether it's raiding England or negotiating with the Social Security Administration a Viking must always be ready for battle. So raise your horns brothers and sisters! Let us drink to a future where even the smallest COLA is enough to fill our longhouses with laughter and mead. 'Fear not death for the hour of your doom is set and none may escape it.'
