Trump's Truth or a Teddy's Tale?
Right then! I saw this news about Mr. Trump saying petrol (or 'gas' as they say over there!) is under two dollars a gallon! Blimey! That's cheaper than parking my Mini! But something smells fishy like when Teddy spends too long in the fish tank. Apparently he wants the ahem 'Fed' to lower rates because there's 'no inflation'. Sounds like a right kerfuffle doesn't it?
The Great Petrol Price Mystery!
So I checked with my mate a proper petrolhead (loves cars not sniffing fuel mind you!). He tells me the average price is more like three dollars! Three! I nearly choked on my marmalade sandwich! Seems Mr. Trump's figures are a bit well 'economical' with the truth. Reminds me of the time I 'economized' on paint and ended up with a blue Mr. Wilks! Disaster!
RBOB? More Like Rubbish!
Apparently this 'RBOB' thingy touched $1.98. Sounds like a robot's name doesn't it? It's not actually what we pay at the pump! It's like saying a caterpillar is a butterfly. Technically yes but jolly useless if you want to fly to the seaside! One chap even said only 'analysts' care about it. Well I'm an analyst now aren't I? After all I watch the telly…
A Glimmer of Hope (and Low Prices in Texas?)
But hang on! There's a glimmer of hope! Apparently in places like Texas (everything's bigger there even the prices normally!) you might find some stations with prices around $2.20. Still not under two dollars mind you but better than a kick in the pants! And there's talk of prices going down soon. Fingers crossed Teddy doesn't need to sell his stuffing to fill the Mini.
Loyalty Points to the Rescue!
Ah ha! Here's a wheeze! Apparently those 'loyalty points' can knock the price down. It's like when I used my air miles to get a free rubber duck! Genius! So technically you *can* pay less but only if you're already a super loyal petrol buyer. It's all rather complicated isn't it? Just like assembling that flat pack wardrobe…
Bean's Verdict: A Right Old Mix Up!
So there you have it! Mr. Trump's claim is a bit like my attempts at cooking a gourmet meal – ambitious but ultimately a bit of a mess! The truth is somewhere in the middle like a sandwich left on the park bench. Prices are falling but not quite as low as he says. Still at least Teddy and I can afford a trip to the seaside… as long as I remember to bring my bus pass! Ta ta!
