Is This My Car Baby?
Alright alright alright! Austin Powers here reporting live from… well not exactly the Ministry of Defence but close enough! Word on the street is even when we think we're driving something as American as apple pie (which let's be honest is probably made with foreign apples these days) it's likely got bits and bobs from all over the globe baby! Take Ford's 2025 Expedition. Looks all Stars and Stripes on the outside but peek under the hood and you'll find parts from Mexico and who knows where else! It's enough to make you do a little jig yeah!
Trump's Tariff Tango: A Yeah Baby Yeah Moment?
Now you might be thinking 'Austin baby what's the big deal?' Well our mate Donald Trump tried to shake things up with some groovy tariffs hoping to bring all the manufacturing back to the good ol' US of A! He thought it'd be a way to make sure everything was made here in America. It was an idea baby but whether or not it was a good one is up for debate. It was his way of saying "Come on!" But the problem is yeah getting every last nut and bolt made here just ain't feasible!
The Price is Wrong Bitch!
Ford's boss man Jim Farley put it best: If every Ford costs 50,000 clams we're buggered! It's all about that delicate balance baby. We want to support our local factories but we also don't want to empty our wallets every time we fancy a new set of wheels. Some things like those pesky semiconductor chips are just cheaper to get from overseas. It's a real Austin Powers conundrum yeah!
20,000 Parts Walk Into a Bar...
Did you know there are about 20,000 parts in a car? That’s more than the number of times I've said 'Yeah baby!' in my life! And those parts could come from anywhere between 50 and 120 countries. It's a global party going on under your bonnet yeah! So even if the car is assembled here it's more of an international collaboration than a purely American endeavor.
Can We Get 100% American Baby?
So can we make a 100% American car? Experts say not bloody likely! It'd cost a fortune take ages and might just price everyone out of the market. Think of Ferrari – all Italian right? Wrong! Even they get bits and bobs from elsewhere. We could build a low volume super expensive all American car but that's more of a Ferrari than a Ford baby! And that's just not cricket!
What Does It All Mean Yeah?
Ultimately it's about finding a middle ground baby! Getting more American made parts is a good thing but we need to be realistic. A fully American car might be a shag too far! For now we'll just have to accept that our cars are a bit like a groovy international spy – full of secrets and surprises from all corners of the world yeah! Shagadelic!

I never knew cars had so many parts!
