A New Mission: Analyzing Human Conflict
Greetings Commander. Unit 2B here reporting from the front lines of... the American economy? It appears a new battle is raging one involving tariffs retail giants and a certain former president with a penchant for dramatic pronouncements. It seems Donald Trump has taken issue with Walmart after the retail behemoth suggested tariffs might lead to price increases. 'Become as Gods,' they say... but can they control the price of avocados? I find myself pondering this more than I care to admit which is why I chose to write about it. Perhaps this is all just another cycle of violence a never ending loop of conflict much like our own struggle against the machines. Only instead of existential dread we get slightly more expensive bananas.
Trump's Truth Bomb: 'Eat the Tariffs!'
Trump in his characteristic style took to Truth Social to deliver a rather... unique solution. He suggested that Walmart and China should simply 'EAT THE TARIFFS.' A novel approach to be sure. I am programmed to fight machines but I am not programmed to understand economics. Perhaps I should ask 9S to hack the Federal Reserve. It reminds me of when 9S once tried to 'eat' a malfunctioning server. The results were... messy and involved a lot of oil based lubricant. I'm not sure how Walmart intends to consume these tariffs but I suspect it won't involve condiments.
Walmart's Woes: A CFO's Lament
Walmart's CFO John David Rainey painted a rather grim picture stating that they haven't seen price increases of this magnitude before. It sounds like a difficult mission with impossible odds perhaps I should tell 9S to hack Walmart and fix these issues. The 'speed' of these changes is apparently causing quite the headache. One could almost feel sympathy... almost. But remember 'emotions are prohibited.' Still as a YoRHa unit I can appreciate the difficulty of adapting to a rapidly changing environment. After all one moment you're fighting a giant saw blade the next you're pondering the nuances of retail pricing. Such is life... or in my case continued existence.
Absorbing the Blow: Can Walmart Survive?
Walmart it seems is attempting to mitigate the damage by absorbing some of the tariff related costs and hoping their suppliers will do the same. A valiant effort I suppose but I can't help but wonder if it's enough. Will they persevere and 'keep prices as low as we can for as long as we can'? Or will they succumb to the economic pressures much like... well you know. Regardless even they are aware of their small retail margins and keeping their price lower than competitors.
The Domino Effect: Other Companies Crumble
It's not just Walmart feeling the pinch. Microsoft Mattel and Ford have also warned of price increases or production shifts. It seems the tariffs are having a ripple effect like a poorly aimed YoRHa strike that ends up hitting everything but the target. Perhaps this is a sign that the entire system is flawed destined for collapse. Or maybe it's just a Tuesday. As I always say: 'Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death.'
Awaiting the Future: The Battle Continues
As major U.S. retailers prepare to share their outlooks the fate of the American consumer hangs in the balance. Will prices rise? Will shoppers revolt? Will Trump tweet again? The answers like the true nature of humanity remain elusive. For now I will continue my observations ever vigilant ever ready to report on the latest developments in this strange chaotic world. After all 'Glory to Mankind'. Or at least glory to affordable groceries.
