Toasty Trade Winds?

Foolish mortals! The whispers of 'trade wars' reach even the Netherrealm. This news speaks of President Trump a man who clearly enjoys playing with fire slapping tariffs on everything from Boeing's metal birds to the engines of GE Aerospace. It seems he seeks to make things 'more expensive for the industry,' as Dak Hardwick puts it. Does he not realize that these 'high value U.S. jobs' are built on trade? Such short sightedness deserves a fiery hellfire!

Get Over Here...and Pay the Tariff!

The Aerospace Industries Association pleads with this Trump begging him to honor an old trade agreement. They want duty free passage for these metal birds and their components. But the White House it seems is a fortress besieged by requests. Trump's decree is clear: bolster American manufacturing lessen reliance on imports. But consider the Boeing 787 Dreamliner its veins stretch from Japan to Italy and even it's European counterparts in Alabama. He wishes for America to 'maintain an effective security umbrella,' but what good is an umbrella riddled with tariff sized holes? Is this truly the best way to achieve this objective? To this I say 'You Suck!'

Boeing CEO's Plea: Free Trade is Vital!

Even Boeing's CEO Kelly Ortberg grovels before the Senate chanting the mantra of 'free trade.' He claims that they are an 'ideal kind of an export company' which is 'creating U.S. jobs long term high value U.S. jobs.' He fears markets closing access denied. I find myself agreeing with these mortals more than I would like to admit. Free trade it seems is essential for maintaining the balance of power in this realm.

The 45 Year Old Agreement Faces Finality!

For 45 years this industry has been free from the burden of tariffs. Now this Trump threatens to tear it asunder with his 'levies of 10%'. Kush Desai a mouthpiece for the White House claims that making products in America will shield you from tariffs. But what of those who rely on imported steel aluminum and other vital components? It appears he is offering safety but it is more like a pit of spikes.

Who Pays the Ultimate Price?

These tariffs they are paid by the importer which inflates the price and who must bear this burden? The manufacturers the supply chains or the end consumers. Jefferies analyst Sheila Kahyaoglu points out that these price jumps are absorbed by the 'original equipment manufacturer,' or ultimately the buyer. Stocks plummet as Trump continues to be a disruptor. This reminds me of Quan Chi wreaking havoc for his own amusement.

A Fragile Supply Chain Shattered!

As if COVID wasn't enough now this! The fragile supply chain of the aerospace industry already strained faces further torment. Parts are scarce and demand is soaring. Even planes labeled 'Made in the USA' are mere illusions as they gather parts from all corners of the realm. Richard Aboulafia states that 'There's no such thing as a national jet.' The question is not whether they will survive but the true test is what will they become once the dust settles? It is time to Face Your Destiny!

I hope Boeing and Airbus can weather this storm. They're vital for our economy.

This trade war is hurting everyone, not just the aerospace industry.
