Say What Now? Americans Ditching the Home Turf!

Alright folks Saul Goodman here your favorite lawyer and occasional travel guru... okay maybe not the guru part. But listen up! I've got the inside scoop on a real head scratcher. Seems like everyone's been bitten by the travel bug lately and not the kind you get from that dodgy motel in Albuquerque. I'm talking about REAL travel international flights! This story about Caroline Smith and her fam bam bumping into half their town in ITALY? It's not just a quirky coincidence it's an EPIDEMIC! The article states that Americans are hightailing it out of here faster than I can spot a 'limited time only' sale on a good suit! But hold your horses the problem is that the number of foreign visitors to the U.S. is tanking like a drug kingpin's empire after yours truly gets involved. And that my friends is a problem for everyone. It’s like when Walter White couldn’t cook without Jesse a disaster but on a larger global scale.

Blame Canada! (And Maybe Some Other Stuff Too)

So why is everyone suddenly giving Uncle Sam the stink eye? Well according to the article we can point fingers at a few usual suspects. Apparently there's some on again off again trade war nonsense a little drama with folks getting detained (oops!) and even some good ol' fashioned strong arming from our good buddy Donald Trump! I mean come on folks! Are we really trying to scare off the tourists? It's like trying to run a casino by barring all the high rollers...which I would never do of course! You gotta be hospitable am I right? After all you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar...or in my case you catch more clients with a charming smile and a uh 'creative' interpretation of the law.

Ka Ching Gone Wrong: The Billion Dollar Blunder

Here's the real kicker: this travel imbalance is putting a serious dent in our wallets. We're talking a potential $50 billion gap between what we make from tourism and what Americans are spending abroad! That's enough to buy a lot of hairspray and a few lifetime supplies of cell phones. According to some fancy pants JPMorgan analyst this could shave off 0.1% from our GDP. Now I'm no economist but even I know that's not chump change! It's like having your pockets picked while you're trying to negotiate a plea bargain. Not a good look folks!

United and Delta Singin' the Blues (and Cutting Flights!)

Even the big boys are feeling the pinch. United and Delta are singing the blues about weaker demand and are actually CUTTING flights. Can you believe it? It’s like a lawyer turning down clients. Oh wait I remember turning down Jesse Pinkman so many times…Anyways United says bookings from Europe are down 6% and from Canada a whopping 9%! Sounds like someone needs to call Saul... or maybe a really good travel agent!

White Lotus to the Rescue? Not Quite But Close!

On the bright side American tourists are getting their inspiration from…television! Apparently "The White Lotus" and "Emily in Paris" are sending folks scrambling for plane tickets to Thailand and France! Now that’s what I like cultural influence! Good TV shows setting off trends just like Better Call Saul set off a trend of good lawyering. And the airlines are seeing a boom in premium cabin sales. Seems like the wealthy and aging are still jet setting around the globe unbothered by market volatility. As Delta’s president put it these baby boomers "want to go do things" before it's too late. You hear that folks? Time is money so spend it! Preferably on a lavish vacation... or on a really good lawyer!

Saul's Solution: Make America Great... for Tourists!

So what's the solution? Well I'm just a humble lawyer (who knows a guy who knows a guy) but here's my two cents: we need to make America great... for tourists! Lose the trade wars stop detaining innocent folks and maybe dial back the rhetoric a notch or two. And hey while we're at it let's get some cool TV shows set right here in the good ol' U.S. of A! "Breaking Bad: The Tourist Edition," anyone? Bottom line: let’s get those visitors back to America so we can all keep getting our pockets lined. After all as I always say “Better Call Saul!”… and maybe book a vacation.
