A New Raid on the Skies?
Hark travelers! Ragnar Lothbrok speaks! I have heard whispers from across the seas tales of flying machines and men who charge you for every scrap of comfort. Frontier Airlines it seems has decided to raid the coffers of Southwest offering free seats and carry ons! A cunning move eh? It reminds me of when I first sailed to England promising riches and returning with... well mostly riches. But also a lot of angry Saxons.
Southwest's Heart Turns Cold?
Southwest with its 'heart' and 'love,' is now demanding tribute for bags! They were once the generous hosts offering free passage for your belongings. Now they sing a different saga. Barry Biffle their leader speaks of 'heart,' but I smell the scent of greed. Perhaps they need a lesson in humility the kind only a Viking raid can teach. But alas I am stuck writing about it. 'Sometimes it is not enough to want something you must have the power to obtain it.' Perhaps Frontier has the power. I wonder if they have any axes?
Frontier's Promise: Freedom for the Common Man?
Frontier claims they are running *towards* what travelers love. A bold claim indeed! They offer bundles and ease restrictions a welcome change from the penny pinching ways of the other sky lords. If they deliver then perhaps they deserve our loyalty. But remember trust is a fragile thing like a longship in a storm. 'I believe our fate is to discover the secrets of the oceans. And travel the skies without paying for every single thing you bring.'
Southwest Strikes Back! Empty Promises?
Southwest scoffs boasting of its vast network and freedom from change fees. 'Bah!' I say. Words are wind. A Viking values action not empty promises. They brag about serving new customers 'attracted to fare above all else.' But what good is a cheap fare if you arrive with nothing but the clothes on your back eh? It is like arriving in Paris with no gold to spend at the cathedral. A tragedy I tell you.
Basic Economy: The New Serfdom of the Skies
Southwest is now offering basic economy tickets! Which means you pay to be less than a man. You are a serf in the sky! No changes allowed they say. You are trapped! It is worse than being chained to a rock awaiting the eagles. 'I have been searching all my life. I have been looking for a place that I can call my own. A place where I can be free.' Alas that place is not on Southwest's basic economy flights.
The Future of Flight: A Viking's Prophecy
The other airlines salivate at Southwest's folly like wolves circling a wounded boar. But what does it all mean? The skies are in turmoil! Perhaps Frontier's gamble will pay off. Perhaps Southwest will learn humility. Or perhaps the gods will simply laugh as they watch us squabble over baggage fees. Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: 'Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think.' And I Ragnar Lothbrok feel a great deal of mirth at this whole situation.

This is a smart move by Frontier to gain market share.
