First Punch: AI Enters the Dojo
Hey hey Jackie Chan here! So I hear Microsoft's GitHub got a new toy – a Copilot AI agent that codes for you! Like having a mini me but instead of doing dangerous stunts it's writing lines of code. They say it can add features fix bugs even write the documentation! Documentation! Who needs that when you can just… *POW!* … solve the problem with a well placed kick? But seriously this sounds interesting even for an old school guy like me.
Crane Style Coding: Graceful or Just Confusing?
This Copilot uses Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet AI model which sounds more like a fancy wine than a coding tool. But apparently it's smart! You assign it a task and it responds with... an eyes emoji? What happened to respect? Where are the manners? In my movies we show respect by bowing! But it then writes the code puts it in a new file and summarizes what it did. Sounds like a diligent student… as long as it doesn't start breaking furniture like I did in my early films.
Drunken Master Debugging: Maybe Not the Best Approach
They say this AI is good at "low to medium complexity tasks." So the really tricky stuff? Still needs a human brain. Good! Makes me feel like my brain is still useful for something other than remembering all those complicated fight choreography moves. Now don't get me wrong technology can be helpful but remember: 'Sometimes it is better to use your hand. Simpler more direct'. But if it helps me find where my socks go I'm all in!
From Zero to Hero: The Vibe Coding Revolution?
Apparently there's this "vibe coding" thing now where you just tell the computer what to do with a few words and it writes the program. Sounds like magic! Remember that scene in 'The Myth' where I could seemingly control objects with my mind? Well maybe this is the closest we'll get to real life magic. But remember too much reliance on magic can get you into trouble you still need the hard work! If they can do that then it could be that next big thing. But this GitHub agent is for keeping things running smoothly like oiling my stunt team. Maybe it’ll save a broken bone or two. I can only hope so.
Microsoft's Money Moves: Free Lunch or Pay Per View?
So GitHub is making some serious cash now which is fantastic. Everybody loves money! But this new Copilot agent? Not free. You gotta pay extra for the 'Pro+' subscription or the 'Enterprise' service. So like getting the VIP seat at my movie premiere… you see the same movie but you're just sitting closer and paying extra to do so. The important thing is whether it helps people or not.
Final Round: The Future of Code Fu
So is this GitHub Copilot the future of coding? Maybe! Will it replace human programmers? Probably not. But it might make their lives a little easier like having a good stunt double. And as I always say 'Don't try this at home'… unless you're a trained coder with a Copilot Pro+ subscription. Then code away and let me know how to use it I have been trying for years. Okay gotta go! Time to find a new chair to break for my next movie. Bye bye!
