Wednessssday! The News Breaks!
Hello my friends! Jackie Chan here ready to jump into the news faster than I jump over a bad guy in Rush Hour! I hear whispers...loud whispers really...that 'NBA Inside Stuff' might be making a comeback! Like when I find a vase I accidentally broke and glued back together this show is getting another chance! It appears the NBA has filed some trademark applications for the show. Back in the day that Ahmad Rashad he was something! Always yelling out the days of the week. 'Weddnesssssday!' Classic! But let's be honest he wasn't doing his own stunts. I do all my own stunts! Even the silly ones. Sometimes especially the silly ones. The show initially aired on NBC and ABC from 1990 to 2006. It was briefly resurrected from 2013 to 2016 on NBA TV. 'Don't do things by half. If you love someone love them with all your soul' or in this case if you are gonna remake a show do it well!
NBC's Got a Fever and the Only Prescription is More Dunks!
NBC they lost the broadcast rights back in 2002 but now they are back in the game! It seems they want to bring back a 'refreshed version' of the show. 'No decision has been made on whether to renew the show' I guess they are still contemplating. Like when I'm trying to decide whether to use a ladder or a chair in a fight scene. So many options! An NBC spokesman declined to comment. Well alright then keep your secrets. But Jackie Chan always finds out one way or another! It sounds like they are tapping into nostalgia. This reminds me of when I try to remake one of my classic movies. Sometimes it works sometimes I end up with egg on my face. But hey you gotta try right?
Intellectual Property? More Like Intellectual Kung Fu!
This trademark stuff? It's like learning a new martial art. All these rules and regulations! But Josh Gerben a trademark attorney seems to think it's a good idea. He says it's great intellectual property for the league. 'I think it makes a lot of business sense right now.' He says. See even lawyers can be smart sometimes! He even thinks it could be a YouTube or TikTok show. Woah! That would be something huh? Jackie Chan doing TikTok dances with NBA stars. Now THAT'S something I'd like to see!
John Tesh is Back?! Roundball Rock and Roll!
And get this! John Tesh is working with NBC to bring back his famous 'Roundball Rock' song! That tune is more iconic than my broken nose! Okay maybe not but it's close! That song brings me back to when I was watching the games and practicing my own moves in the living room. You know trying to dribble a basketball while hanging from the chandelier. My mother was not happy but hey a guy's gotta train somehow!
The $76 Billion Deal: Ka Ching!
Speaking of money the NBA signed a HUGE media rights deal! $76 billion! That's more money than I have broken bones! It kicks off next season with Disney NBCUniversal and Amazon. Maybe they can afford to hire me as a guest star! I can teach the players some real moves...you know the kind that involve ladders chairs and maybe a small trampoline or two. It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. One thing I know for sure: the NBA and television are like peanut butter and jelly. They just go together!
Jackie Chan's Two Cents (Which is Probably Worth More Now)
So what do I think? Well I'm excited! 'NBA Inside Stuff' was a fun show and if they can bring back some of that magic it'll be great for the fans. But remember don't try to be someone else. Be yourself! And if you're going to do something do it with heart and soul...and maybe a few well placed kicks and punches! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go practice my slam dunk. I'm thinking of incorporating a nunchuck routine. Wish me luck!
