Alright my groovy cats and kittens! Austin Powers here reporting live from the front lines of international intrigue! It seems our friends at NATO are about to drop a bombshell… a defense spending bombshell! They're talkin' about pumpin' up those defense budgets to a whopping 5% of each nation's GDP by 2035. Yeah baby! That's a lot of cheddar! But some countries are being real party poopers struggling to even hit the old 2% target. Oh behave!

Trump's in the House! (And He's Got Some Demands Yeah!)

Now you can't talk NATO without mentioning the big cheese himself Donald Trump! For years he's been on the case tellin' those European and Canadian allies to pull their weight. And now he's makin' noises about Article 5 the very heart of NATO! "There's numerous definitions of Article 5," he says. Sounds a bit dodgy doesn't it? But fear not Secretary General Rutte is there to smooth things over insistin' that Trump is fully committed… as long as everyone opens their wallets baby!

While some countries like Poland and Estonia are already throwin' down the big bucks others are draggin' their feet. Spain is callin' the 5% target "unreasonable," and Belgium wants more wiggle room baby! Italy's even questionin' the whole point of the alliance! Oh the drama! Other bigwigs are chimin' in too. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof is bullish sayin' NATO "will deliver unity today." But Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson isn't so sure. He can't "rule out any kind of problem." Meanwhile Estonia's defense minister Hanno Pevkur is lookin' for a compromise. They're hopin' to hit that 5% target by 2035 with annual check ups on the way baby! But the million dollar question is will they get there?

And let's not forget Hungary's Viktor Orban who's never one to miss a chance to stir the pot baby! He's blamin' EU rules for makin' it hard to meet the new spending targets.
