Shake Rattle and Roll Over the Resistance

Right listen up. A bloody earthquake in Myanmar eh? Shook the place like a Peaky Blinder walkin' into a temperance meeting. Thousands dead more missin'. Official numbers are always bollocks you know that. The Yanks reckon it'll top ten thousand. Ten thousand! More bodies than a Shelby Company shipment gone wrong. But that's not the half of it is it? The junta those tinpot soldiers they're using it. 'By order of the Peaky Blinders,' as they say in this case 'by order of the Junta' trying to grab back control while everyone's still picking themselves up. Clever? Maybe. Desperate? Definitely. As my beloved Lizzie used to say: 'This is a good chance Tommy don't screw it up'.

From Cyclone Nargis to Calculated Compassion

Now back in '08 after that cyclone Nargis those same bastards refused help. Thousands died. This time? They're beggin' for it! Uncharacteristic they call it. I call it opportunistic. Like Aberama Gold sniffing out a weakness. They're hoping for a political settlement these analysts reckon. A bit of peace talk. They want to use this quake to put down the rebellion.

Lines in the Sand and Blood

Don't hold your breath. 'Battle lines etched too deeply,' they say. No common ground. Like tryin' to find a sober Irishman on St. Patrick's Day. This ceasefire they declared? Twenty days. Until April 22nd. A joke. A bloody sideshow. Mark my words they will use this chaos to crush the resistance. They will use it all. They are not to be trusted.

A State of Failure and Violence

Since '21 when they ousted the elected government Myanmar's gone to hell. Three and a half million displaced. Economy in tatters. This earthquake? Just pouring petrol on the fire. Makes it 'even more of a failed and violent state'. Says some clever bloke at the Council on Foreign Relations. He's right of course these Junta members would 'rather kill people than do anything else' I know the type... I used to be that type. But not anymore.

Seizing the Moment Blocking the Aid

The earthquake hit 'em when they were losing ground. Now they're 'recalibrating priorities'. Whatever that means. They're blocking aid to rebel held areas. Even fired warning shots at a Chinese Red Cross convoy! I mean come on this is war innit! They're prioritizing crushing the resistance. Like me choosing between a bottle of whiskey and a deal with the Russians there is no contest. 'Whiskey wins every time' and for these Junta members 'War wins every time'.

A Diplomatic Dance with the Devil

Here's the real kicker. This disaster has given the junta leader a chance to play nice. China India Southeast Asia. 'Using the earthquake as a window of opportunity,' they say. Bolstering their credentials. Meeting with Thai officials the Indian Prime Minister. China's sent aid. The Yanks? A measly $9 million. Chicken feed. They're hoping this charade will help them in the upcoming election. A sham of course. Like a bloody rigged roulette wheel. But they don't care. They just want to stay in power. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever will be. They will proceed with the election in December 2025 no matter what... You just need to be sure to pick the right side at the right time.
