By Order of the Bankers
Right so HSBC that big bank that probably holds more secrets than a Shelby wedding has released its first quarter numbers. Profit before tax? $9.48 billion. Revenue? $17.65 billion. Now numbers are just numbers aren't they? Like bullets – they don't mean much until they find their target. They beat the bloody estimates that's what matters. Still a 25% dip in profit compared to last year. Revenue’s down 15%. It's enough to make a man reach for the whiskey even at this hour. But we're Peaky Blinders aye? We don't back down and neither do these bankers apparently.
The Devil's in the Restructuring
They're saying this profit jump from last quarter is some kind of miracle. A nearly 317% surge in profit before tax. Revenue's up too. Someone's been cooking the books or they've finally learned to count properly. DBS Bank's Manyi Lu reckons it's down to restructuring. Splitting the East from the West like separating the sheep from the wolves. Saving a measly $300 million. Pocket change for a bank this size really. But in this game every penny counts.
Trade Winds and Whiskey Dreams
Uncertainties in global trade. Tariffs and recession fears. Sounds like a bloody weather forecast doesn’t it? But these things matter especially when you’re dealing with more money than God. Lu says the real pain from Trump's tariffs is yet to come. Like a hangover it’ll hit you when you least expect it. Best be prepared. We always are. 'Whiskey' is my favourite weather after all!
Scrapping for Scraps
Turns out HSBC CEO Georges Elhedery and a few other blokes from British banks have been nagging the Chancellor to ditch these 'ring fencing' rules. Keeps the risky investments away from the everyday Joe's savings. They reckon it'll boost the economy. Probably boost their bonuses too. You have to keep moving forward.
By Order of the Board
So what does it all mean? HSBC is playing the game just like everyone else. They’re restructuring dodging tariffs and trying to sweet talk the government. Are they winning? Too early to say. But one thing's for sure: they're not going down without a fight. And neither will we. We keep dancing till the music stops. And when it does we make our own.
No Rest for the Wicked (Or the Bankers)
In the grand scheme of things it's just another day at the races. The rich get richer the poor... well they get poorer. But remember even the devil was once an angel. And in this world everyone's got a price. Best find out what it is.

I would rather live in hell with a Shelby that paradise without.

Another day, another billion made. Makes you sick, don't it?
