The Lucky Charm's Gone
So Google's decided to ditch the 'I'm Feeling Lucky' button eh? Replaced it with 'AI Mode'. Seems to me luck ran out a while ago. Should've listened to the voices in my head like Arthur always does... Anyway this new AI button is sitting pretty right under the search bar. Prime real estate. They're finally taking this AI business seriously or pretending to at least.
Pressure from the Outside
Ever since that ChatGPT came along the Yanks at Alphabet have been sweating. Investors whispering in their ears about losing their grip on the search game. Makes a fella wonder if they've still got the stomach for a proper fight. Microsoft's got their hands in OpenAI's pockets too nearly 14 billion. Money talks I suppose.
Gemini's Gamble
Their Gemini AI they reckon it's just as good maybe better than the competition. But good ain't enough is it? Need to get the punters using it. Thirty five million daily users compared to ChatGPT's 160 million? Those are numbers that keep a man awake at night. Much like Polly's singing...or was it Ada's ranting? I can't tell anymore.
Playing with Prototypes
They've been tinkering with the search page design for ages apparently. Five different prompts under the bar a chat logo in the corner. All a bit fancy for my taste. Give me a straight answer no messing about. Like dealing with Alfie Solomons.
AI Mode Unveiled
Google said they'd be testing this 'AI Mode' thing back in March. Talking about 'advanced reasoning thinking and multimodal capabilities'. Sounds like they're trying to build a bloody oracle. I once consulted with real oracles. Don't know what's worse the AI or the oracles.
Investing in the Future (or So They Say)
Now they're throwing money at AI startups this 'AI Futures Fund'. Giving them early access to their AI models. Smart move? Maybe. Desperate move? Probably. They're trying to rebuild the power they already have. It seems in this business you fight or die.

I preferred the old button.
