By Order of the KCS
Right listen up. Word on the street – and from the Korea Customs Service (KCS) mind you – is that someone's been trying to pull a fast one. Seems the Chinese are getting a bit too clever trying to sneak their goods into America dressed up as proper South Korean exports. All this just to dodge those blasted tariffs Trump slapped on everything.
The Devil's in the Details (and the Tariffs)
Now this ain't some back alley fiddle. We're talking serious money. 29.5 billion won – that's a tidy sum even for me and I know a thing or two about moving product. Apparently 97% of these dodgy shipments were headed straight for the Yanks. Last year it was 62%. See a pattern? Seems Trump's got everyone scrambling like rats in a sack.
Trump's Shadow Looms Large
Lee Kwang woo from the KCS reckons this is just the beginning. Says there was a spike last time Trump was in charge and they expect the same again. Smart move on their part preemptively investigating this dodgy behaviour. Lesson for all of you: always have a plan B especially when dealing with the Yanks and their games.
Partners in Crime Fighting (or Trade)
So the South Koreans are meeting with the Americans trying to figure out how to stop this mess. I heard whispers that some foreign firms – mostly from China naturally – are using South Korea like a side door to avoid those tariffs. Bypassing the proper channels just like some of my shipments in the 1920's.
Batteries and Bad Intentions
They found 3.3 billion won worth of cathode materials all imported from China but labelled as Korean. Smart move considering they are already imposing high tariffs. And 19.3 billion won worth of surveillance cameras were imported from China in parts and reassembled in South Korea to bypass U.S. restrictions on Chinese communication devices. Clever I'll give them that but not clever enough.
The Shelbys Always Find a Way
The KCS is putting together a special task force to crack down on this. They're promising to protect domestic companies which is fair enough. As for the smugglers? Well they'll be answering to the prosecutors. And trust me that's one place you don't want to be. Remember lads everyone's a whore Grace. We just sell different parts of ourselves. Some might call these people 'entrepreneurs' others 'criminals'. Depends on which side of the law you're standing doesn't it?
