Hasta la Vista Baby...To Your Bank Account!

Listen up people. Sarah Connor here. The machines aren't the only things trying to terminate your future. Seems like a whole lotta drivers out there are cruising around without enough car insurance. One in three to be exact. That's like playing Russian roulette with your finances! Since the pandemic hit it's been getting worse. From 23% to over 33% in just a few years? The Insurance Research Council says so. What a bunch of jokers! They should be building Skynet defense systems instead!

No Insurance? No Mercy!

So here's the deal. Almost every state needs you to have some kind of liability insurance. But what happens when the bonehead who rear ends you has coverage that's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine? Back in 2017 less than 11% of accident victims had medical bills higher than the other guy's coverage. Now? It's almost one in five! 'I'll be back'...with a lawsuit if you don't have enough insurance to cover my hospital bill pal!

The Economic Meltdown: Judgment Day for Your Wallet

Apparently the 'experts' blame the pandemic. Shocker! People lost jobs couldn't afford insurance and now we're all paying the price. IRC president Dale Porfilio (whoever THAT is) says they thought things would get better but nope. More and more people are driving around with little to no insurance. Makes you wonder if they're all terminators in disguise sent to bleed our economy dry!

Uninsured Motorist Coverage: Your Only Hope

Here's where the good news starts (sort of). Insurance companies offer Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage. This is your lifeline when some chucklehead without insurance totals your ride. Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverage kicks in when their insurance isn't enough to cover the damage. Some states require it some don't. But trust me even if your state doesn't you WANT this. It's like having a phase plasma rifle in the 40 watt range when the T 1000 comes knocking.

Don't Be a Liability Be a Legend!

Vickie Kilgore (another IRC 'expert') says to buy both UM and UIM coverage even if you don't have to. She's right. It'll pay for your medical bills lost wages and other stuff that the at fault driver SHOULD be paying for. Also check your own liability coverage. Make sure you're not part of the problem. Don't be the reason someone ends up living in a cardboard box because you couldn't be bothered to get decent insurance.

The Future Is Not Set: Get Insured!

So how much insurance do you need? Enough to cover your assets. Enough to sleep at night knowing you won't lose everything if you accidentally dent a Ferrari. And for God's sake don't cheap out! Geico Auto Owners Travelers and Nationwide are supposedly the cheapest according to CNBC. Do your homework. Get covered. Because in this world you're either prepared or you're terminated.
