Hasta la Vista Account Access

Listen up people. Sarah Connor here. I've seen the future and apparently it involves being locked out of your Fidelity account while the market goes bonkers. According to reports this morning more than 3,000 users were banging on Fidelity's digital doors screaming 'I'll be back... with my buy orders!' Downdetector says most were login issues. Guess Skynet's not the only one who can cause a system crash. Remember what I said? 'The future is not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves.' Unless of course Fidelity's servers decide otherwise.

Judgment Day for Day Traders

The market spiked like a junkie needing a fix thanks to some temporary tariff cuts between China and the U.S. The Dow jumped like it was trying to escape a T 1000 and everyone wanted a piece of the action. Except you know if you couldn't log in. Certified financial planner Lazetta Rainey Braxton said it was especially rough for day traders and options investors. Imagine trying to time the market when you can't even *see* the market. It's like fighting a Terminator with a butter knife.

I Know Why the Servers Cry

Fidelity in their infinite wisdom acknowledged the problem but clammed up about the cause. Probably blamed it on sunspots or a rogue Roomba. Braxton nailed it “Not having access to their brokerage accounts during big market swings can hurt their strategies because they are actively managing their portfolios”. Yeah tell me about it! It's like telling John to hide in plain sight. Not ideal when the world's about to end. Fidelity probably just used Skynet to upgrade their system thinking no one would notice the issues.

Long Haul Heroes vs. the Machines

Braxton had some comforting words for those long term investors who weren't sweating bullets. 'Most investors are not chasing the market,' she said. Which is fine I guess if you're not trying to prevent a robot apocalypse. But even if you're in it for the long haul getting locked out when the market's doing the Macarena can still be nerve wracking. 'Come with me if you want to live'.. with your investments intact!

Been There Crashed That

Turns out Fidelity and Charles Schwab pulled this stunt before back in August during a market freefall. Financial planner Carolyn McClanahan's advice? 'Remain calm.' Easy for her to say she probably has a bunker stocked with canned goods and a working internet connection. Cathy Curtis another financial guru says outages are temporary and won't affect the value of investments. Right just like Terminators are temporary inconveniences.

No Fate But What We Make... Unless the Internet Dies

So what's the takeaway here? Diversify your assets learn to pick locks and maybe invest in some carrier pigeons as a backup trading system. Because if Skynet doesn't get you Fidelity's login servers just might. Remember the machines are always watching... and sometimes they're just really bad at maintaining their digital infrastructure. Hasta la vista baby... to reliable online trading!
