A Feast of Discord: Republicans at War!
Hark fellow Vikings! It seems these American politicians are at it again. They call it a "tax bill," but it sounds more like a squabble over the last mead barrel at a winter feast. Speaker Mike Johnson bless his cotton socks is trying to wrangle these unruly Republicans before their Memorial Day but it appears they are as easily herded as sheep in a thunderstorm. "How the little piglets will grunt when they learn how the old boar suffered," I always say and their suffering has just begun!
Trump's Promise or a Trickster's Bargain?
Trump the man with hair as golden as a dragon's hoard promised a "big beautiful" tax bill. Now even I Ragnar Lothbrok know that promises are like the wind – they change direction faster than a longship in a storm. This bill is supposed to be his legacy but it is causing more trouble than a berserker in a brewery. Floki would probably call it another sign of the gods' displeasure and he's usually right about these things.
Freedom Caucus: The Shield Wall of Resistance
The House Freedom Caucus led by Andy Harris sounds like a band of Viking warriors refusing to share their spoils. They met with Trump likely trading barbs and threats as if they were negotiating a Danegeld payment. Harris says the "runway is short," which means they are running out of time faster than a Christian monk fleeing a raid. 'Sometimes what we lose helps us find what we need' let's see what that may be.
Markets Tremble Like a Viking After Too Much Mead!
The markets are tumbling they say. The 30 year Treasury bond yield is hitting 5.09%. Numbers and figures! It all sounds like more sorcery than Seer can come up with. But I understand fear when I see it and the markets are more afraid than a Saxon village when they see our longships on the horizon! If the bill passes they fear the debts will explode that is not the sound of progress my friends.
Medicaid Mayhem: Don't F Around!
Trump in his infinite wisdom warned these Republicans not to "f around with Medicaid." A colorful phrase even by my standards! It seems some want to cut this healthcare program which helps the poor. Even a Viking knows that taking care of the less fortunate even thralls is good for morale... and reduces the risk of mutiny. Remember 'Power is always dangerous. It attracts the worst. It corrupts even the best.'
The Gods are Watching (and Probably Laughing)
So there you have it. Another day another political skirmish. Whether this bill passes or fails one thing is certain: the gods are watching and they are probably laughing. Maybe they will send a raven with a better plan or perhaps just another storm to remind these politicians who is really in charge. 'Life is a choice. You can choose to be defeated' lets hope their choice leads to success but I won't hold my breath. Skål!
