A Spot of Bother with Motors!
Right then! News has reached even my little flat – the one I share with Teddy of course! – that General Motors is having a bit of a… well a monumental *kerfuffle* with some of their cars. Apparently nearly 600,000 of their SUVs and trucks are being called back. Can you imagine? That's a LOT of vehicles! More vehicles than I've ever seen parked in front of Buckingham Palace and that's saying something!
Engine…Achoo!
The problem you see is with the engine. Something about connecting rods and crankshafts – sounds terribly important doesn't it? Like something you'd find in a particularly complicated clockwork toy. Anyway these bits might be a bit… wonky. Apparently they might have some manufacturing defects. Which could lead to engine damage. Or worse! A complete and utter engine failure! 'It's not easy being green,' as someone once said about a frog. And I daresay it's not easy having a broken engine either.
Escalades and Such!
Now the cars affected are rather grand. Cadillac Escalades Chevrolet Silverados Suburbans Tahoes GMC Sierras Yukons… posh motors all of them! Not like my trusty Mini which despite its… *ahem*… unique charm has never suffered such a calamity. Though I did once accidentally paint it entirely green. And fill it with sprouts. But that's a story for another time.
Crashes and Ouchies!
Here's the real kicker! Apparently GM has admitted there have been 12 crashes and 12 injuries linked to this engine bother. Twelve! Imagine the chaos! The absolute pandemonium! I nearly had a similar incident once when I tried to drive my armchair to the shops. Almost took out a post box. Mrs. Wicket wasn't pleased I can tell you.
The Fixing Fiasco!
So what's to be done? Well the dealerships are going to have a look at these dodgy engines. And if they find anything amiss they'll either repair them or brace yourselves… REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE! Good heavens! That sounds expensive! Though I suppose it's better than ending up stranded on the side of the road with a broken engine and nothing but Teddy for company. Though to be fair Teddy *is* excellent company.
Bean's Bottom Line
All in all a rather worrying state of affairs. Makes you appreciate a simple cup of tea and a biscuit doesn't it? And perhaps a good check up of your own… bicycle. Safety first after all! Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to make a sandwich. A very very *careful* sandwich.

I bet Mr. Bean could fix it with a paperclip and some chewing gum!

I always knew those fancy cars were trouble! Give me a bicycle any day!
