Hello everyone! Jackie Chan here! You know me I like to kick bad guys and make people laugh. But today I’m talking about something a little different: medicine! Seems like Novo Nordisk the big boss in the drug world just won a major fight in Texas. They said “Hey these copycat pharmacies are trying to steal our moves!” (Well not exactly but you get my drift!). They're not happy about other pharmacies making versions of their popular drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. It's like when someone tries to copy my stunts… but they end up falling on their face! Ouch! Remember kids don't try this at home!

So what’s the big deal? Apparently when there was a shortage of Ozempic and Wegovy – because everyone wants to be healthy and fit like Jackie Chan! – these compounding pharmacies started making their own versions. Think of it like bootleg DVDs! Sometimes okay sometimes…BOOM! Exploding projector! People used these cheaper copies because the real deal was hard to find or maybe their insurance said “No way José!” But now Novo Nordisk is saying “No more! We’re the real dragon here!”

FDA: Fist of Fury... or Friend?

The Food and Drug Administration or FDA (like my own personal 'Fight Danger Always' squad!) is supposed to keep things safe. They didn’t approve these copycat drugs saying they’re like custom made suits not off the rack! Some experts agree saying these drugs aren’t always tested properly. Novo Nordisk is happy of course. They say they’re just trying to protect patients. “Patient safety is like protecting a baby panda!” says Novo Nordisk’s Steve Benz. “Very important!”

Texas Tussle: Judge Judy... With a Gavel!

This judge in Texas Judge Pittman he's no softie! He said “No way!” to the pharmacies who wanted to keep making the copies. He sided with the FDA meaning now they can go after these pharmacies. It’s like when I’m fighting a whole gang of bad guys…one by one I take them down! (Usually with a ladder or a folding chair but you get the idea!).

But wait there’s more! Eli Lilly another big shot in the drug world is doing the same thing with their drugs Zepbound and Mounjaro. It’s like a tag team match! They also got a judge to say “No!” to the copycats. This compounding group they’re not happy. They're appealing! They're not giving up without a fight but Jackie Chan always says “Sometimes the best fight is the fight you avoid!” (Unless of course there's a damsel in distress… or a priceless artifact at stake!).

Who Wins? You Decide! (But Maybe Ask Your Doctor!)

So what does this all mean? It means the big drug companies are winning and the little pharmacies are losing. But what about the patients? Are they better off paying more for the real deal or taking a chance on the cheaper copies? That’s a tough question! Always ask your doctor!
