Run Forrest Run... to the Bank!

Well howdy folks! Forrest Gump here and let me tell you things are movin' faster than me on a football field! I read in the news that folks in a whole bunch of places are gettin' a little extra somethin' in their pockets. Seems like the minimum wage that's the least amount you can get paid for an hour of work is goin' up in places like Alaska Oregon and even Washington D.C. Mama always said 'Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get.' But this time it looks like a lot of people are gettin' a little bit more chocolate!

Everett's Big Bucks!

Now I ain't no math whiz but I did hear about a place called Everett up in Washington state. Seems like if you work for a big company there you might be makin' over $20 an hour! That's like… a whole lotta shrimp! Remember when Bubba and me were gonna buy a shrimp boat? Well maybe these folks in Everett are one step closer to their own shrimp boats too!

Alaskan Adventures and Extra Dollars

And up in Alaska they're gettin' a boost too. It's not quite as high as Everett but every little bit helps like when I gave Lieutenant Dan all that Bubba Gump Shrimp money. I hear they'll be gettin' almost a thousand dollars extra a year! That's enough to buy a whole mess of fishing poles or maybe even a fancy hat like the one I wore when I played ping pong!

Federal Wage Blues

Now I also read that the federal minimum wage that's what everyone's gotta get paid at least hasn't changed in a while. It's been stuck at $7.25 since… well since I was runnin' across America practically! But lots of places are doin' their own thing tryin' to make sure folks can afford things like houses food and seein' the doctor when they need to. 'Stupid is as stupid does,' but not raisin' wages when things cost more seems a little silly even to me.

California Dreamin' (of Higher Wages)

California oh California! So many cities there are raisin' the stakes. From Alameda to Santa Monica people are seeing more green in their paychecks. Must be nice to have some extra cash to spend at Disneyland or maybe even invest in some… apple stock? I don't know I just run.

That's All I Have to Say About That...

So there you have it! Wages are goin' up in some places. I don't know much about fancy economics but I do know that when folks have a little extra money they can do a little more good. And that's always a good thing. Just remember what Mama said: 'You've got to put the past behind you before you can move on.' So here's hopin' these wage increases help folks move on to better things!
