This Ain't the Nostromo: Jobs's 'Hands Off' Approach
Alright people listen up. I've dealt with facehuggers chestbursters and corporate greed so I know a thing or two about bad bosses. But this Steve Jobs character? Seems he had *some* sense. According to Pete Docter this Pixar bigwig Jobs knew when to back off. 'This is not my business,' he apparently said. Imagine that! A CEO who knows his limitations. On the Nostromo they wouldn't know limitations if it slapped them in the face with a xenomorph tail.
Five Minutes to Doom: Analyzing Conversations Like a Pro
Docter says Jobs could stroll into a room size things up in five minutes and nail the core issue. 'Analyze what the conversation was really about,' he’d do. Now I've analyzed a few situations myself – like say when a slimy creature is trying to plant its spawn in my chest. Takes more than five minutes believe me. But the principle is the same: cut through the bull and get to the damn point fast. I could've used that skill when Burke was trying to smuggle those aliens back to Earth.
The Nightmare Shift: When Passion Goes Rogue
Here's where things get dicey. Apparently Jobs had zero respect for personal time. Ringing up employees at all hours even on vacation. 3 a.m. calls? That's worse than finding an alien in your escape pod. Docter figures it was passion but come on! Even the Company had better boundaries than that! I mean almost. They *did* send me back into the hive.
Houston We Have a Problem: Email Edition
Docter admits he still emails people outside of work hours. Baby steps I guess. His wife's trying to stop him. Smart woman. 'Get away from her you BASTARD!' Oops sorry flashback. Look people need downtime. You can't fight aliens if you're exhausted.
Stay Frosty... and Silent: Respecting Boundaries
The takeaway here? Learn from Jobs's strengths sure. But don't become a workaholic monster. As I always say 'Nuke the site from orbit – it's the only way to be sure'... that you're not burning out your employees. Or maybe just set some boundaries. Your call.
CNBC's First Home Online Course
Oh and apparently CNBC has some online course about buying a house? Look if you're considering a mortgage make sure it doesn't involve Weyland Yutani. Trust me on this one.
