Houston We Have a Problem (…Again)
Alright people listen up. This whole 'no tax on tips' business the Senate's cooking up? Smells like another Weyland Yutani special to me. Remember what Burke said? 'It's a simple equation.' Well this equation looks simple but I've learned that simple usually means someone's getting screwed – and it ain't the company men. They're dangling this tax break in front of tipped workers like a cat toy but let's see what's REALLY in the fine print.
The Fine Print? More Like an Xenomorph's DNA
So here's the deal. These GOP lawmakers are trying to push this 'megabill' through promising no taxes on tips just like that orange guy promised. Sounds great right? Except as usual there's a catch. It's a deduction see? Which means it only helps if you actually *owe* taxes. And guess what? A whole bunch of tipped workers *don't*. As that Tedeschi guy at Yale points out over a third of 'em already pay zero federal income tax. So who's this really helping? I'll give you one guess and it rhymes with 'rich folk'.
House vs. Senate: It's a Corporate Cage Match!
Now we got a little cage match brewing. The House version is all 'No limits!' Then the Senate bill throws a wrench in it with this cap. See the Senate wants to limit the tax deduction to 25 grand a year. And once you start making over 150K (or 300K if you're shacked up) they start chipping away at your 'benefit'. 'I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure' that nobody gets anything out of this!
Customarily and Regularly Tipped: The New Alien Species?
And get this they’re limiting it to occupations that were 'customarily and regularly' tipped before 2025. Sounds like they're deciding who's 'worthy' of scraps. I swear it's like they're trying to classify a new species of alien – the 'tipped worker' – and decide who gets to survive. The Treasury Secretary gets 90 days to make a list. A LIST! What is this a game of space bingo?
Illusion of Help: Just Like Burke's Promises
The Economic Policy Institute ain't buying it either. They're saying this is just an 'illusion' to help lower income folks while they're handing out gigantic tax breaks to the rich. Just like Burke promising us a percentage of the profits while secretly sending us to a xenomorph nest. Wake up people! This ain't about helping you; it's about lining someone else's pockets. 'Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?'
Minimum Wage: The Real Solution (or at Least a Flame Thrower)
Instead of this fancy footwork they could just raise the minimum wage. You know a simple solution that actually *helps* people. But no they'd rather play these games. It's like giving someone a band aid when they need a damn flame thrower. But what do I know I'm just a warrant officer who keeps running into chest bursting problems. Stay frosty people. Stay frosty.
