What in the World is NATO Up To Now?

Aw gee whiz! It seems like those NATO fellas are up to somethin' again! This time they're talkin' 'bout spendin' a whopping 5% of their GDP on defense by 2035! Five percent! That's more than I spend on Huey Dewey and Louie's allowance and believe you me those nephews are EXPENSIVE! Seems like they all 'agreed in principle' whatever that means!

From 2% to 5%? That's More Than a Triple Dip!

So get this: back in 2014 they all promised to spend 2% of their GDP on defense right? Well some of 'em are still tryin' to catch up! Now they want 5%! Someone fetch me my calculator! This is more complicated than dividin' a pizza between me and Gladstone Gander... and we all know how THAT usually ends! This is gonna be tougher than dealin' with Pete on a bad day! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Donald Trump Strikes Again!

Remember that ol' coot Donald Trump? He was quackin' about this way back in 2018 wantin' everyone to double their spendin'! He wanted 4%! Now they're going even HIGHER! I tell ya that guy could ruffle feathers like nobody's business. But hey 23 of 'em hit the 2% mark this year according to NATO. So maybe the old coot was onto something eh?

Spain and Italy Say 'Oh Yeah? Try and Make Us!'

But hold on to your hats folks! Not everyone's so keen on this 5% thing. Spain's sayin' they're only gonna spend what they need to and Italy's wonderin' if NATO even matters anymore! Sounds like a family squabble at Thanksgiving only with more tanks and fewer mashed potatoes! And Canada? Well they're always late to the party promisin' to hit 2% by 2026! Sheesh!

Poland and Estonia: Ready to Rumble!

Now some countries are takin' this seriously. Poland and Estonia are already steamin' ahead ready to spend that 5%! They're like those overachieving students who always finish their homework early. But I always say "Don't get hot get smart!" I think?

So what's the bottom line? This whole 5% thing is gonna cause some friction at the summit no doubt about it! Plus there's all sorts of other squabbles goin' on: trade China... it's like a circus over there! But hey that's the news folks!
