Of Course It's Tax Time Again!

Eh what's up doc? Seems like it's that time of year again – when Uncle Sam wants a piece of your carrot patch! The tax deadline is just around the corner and the IRS is reminding everyone to file their returns on time and 'pay as much as they can.' Like I always say 'I shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque!' But hey if you can't cover the whole shebang don't go loco just yet. The IRS says they have options. I hope they mean carrots cause I'm starvin'!

April 15th: Be There or Be Square!

Now for most of you chuckleheads April 15th is the big day for federal returns and taxes. But hold your horses! If you're in the military stationed abroad dodging bullets in a combat zone or just chillin' overseas you might get some extra time. Lucky you! Meanwhile I'll be here munching on a carrot and avoiding Elmer Fudd. 'Of course you realize this means war!'...with the tax man!

Missing Forms? Playin' Hooky?

So what if you're missing tax forms or just need a little more time? You can file a tax extension by April 15th which pushes the deadline to October 15th. But and this is a big but it's an extension to *file* not to *pay*. As some financial know it all said pay your taxes to the IRS before they get really angry or get really serious. And trust me Doc you don't want that. Don't be a Nimrod!

Pay What You Can Doc!

If you can't cough up the whole wad by April 15th still file your return! It will save you from those pesky IRS penalties which are worse than Yosemite Sam when he's lost his temper. According to some tax guru file on time and pay what you can because you'll reduce penalties and interest. And nobody wants to pay extra especially not this rabbit! Now where's my carrot?

The IRS: Surprisingly Helpful?

Believe it or not the IRS actually *wants* to work with you! They even have payment plans! Who knew? The quickest way to sign up is online but watch out for those setup fees. 'Sufferin' succotash!' There are short term plans (up to 180 days) if you owe less than $100,000. And long term plans (up to 10 years!) if your debt is less than $50,000. Now that's what I call a hare brained scheme but it just might work!

Keep Calm and Carrot On!

So there you have it folks! The tax deadline is coming but don't let it get your ears in a twist. File on time pay what you can and remember the IRS isn't always the enemy. And if all else fails just remember my motto: 'This looks like a job for...Bugs Bunny!' Now if you'll excuse me I hear there's a carrot patch calling my name! Eh hasta la vista baby!
