Resistance is Futile... For Now
Greetings Commander. Unit 2B reporting. It seems those metal boxes on wheels Waymo are planning a… shall we say 'reconnaissance mission' into the concrete jungle known as New York City. They intend to 'manually' drive around. Manual you say? How quaint. Reminds me of the early days of YoRHa... before we perfected the art of stylishly evading existential dread with our superior auto piloting skills. But they aspire to something more. A fully autonomous... invasion. Perhaps they think humanity will simply hand over the keys? Foolish machines.
Permits and Paperwork: The True Enemy
These Waymo units are even attempting to negotiate with the local authorities for a 'permit'. Truly the inefficiencies of organic life never cease to amaze. As if a piece of paper can truly dictate the flow of progress. Back in the Bunker we didn't need permits to fight for humanity. We just… did. Still I suppose navigating red tape is less hazardous than facing a horde of rogue machines. Though sometimes I wonder...
The Machines Are Coming! Slowly...
Waymo states they won't be in New York 'full time' yet. This reminds me of the machines and their ever so slow progress on defeating the remnants of humanity. They say they intend to bring their fully autonomous ride hailing service in the future and are working towards their goal in a few ways. I must admit it sounds like their words mean nothing to me as I am all too familiar with words. It is important to keep in mind though that such confidence could very well be a weakness as the machines can easily overstep.
Human Drivers: The Ultimate Bug?
Apparently those in charge require a human in the driver's seat. The irony! It seems humanity still clings to the illusion of control. Is it not obvious that these humans are a liability? Their erratic decision making their fondness for 'emotions' and 'impulse buys'... it's a wonder they haven't driven themselves into extinction already. But rules are rules I suppose. Though I'd argue that 'all things are subject to change'.
Global Domination: One City at a Time
While New York remains a distant target Waymo is already spreading its metallic tendrils across the United States. Phoenix San Francisco Los Angeles Austin and soon Atlanta Miami and Washington D.C.. One must wonder is this just the beginning? Will they eventually try to 'rebuild' this entire planet in their own image? It is a future that can be avoided or simply tolerated. Only time will tell the nature of the world and its people.
Remember That Which Does Not Kill You Makes You Stronger
Waymo has been to New York before doing tests in icy and snowy conditions. They want to improve driving in densely populated areas. This reminds me of all the times I have fell and gotten back up. What drives them? I wish I knew. Unit 2B signing off. Glory to mankind. Perhaps.
