A New Order: Hold Not Buy
Greetings Commander. This is 2B reporting on the unfolding drama surrounding UnitedHealth (UNH). TD Cowen perhaps sensing a shift in the winds like a YoRHa unit detecting a rogue machine signal has downgraded UNH from a 'buy' to a 'hold.' Their price target has also taken a rather dramatic hit plummeting from $520 to a mere $308. Resistance it seems is not always rewarded at least not in the stock market.
V28: The Machines Are Winning
Analyst Ryan Langston points to the V28 Medicare Advantage model as a major source of UNH's woes. Apparently changes to this model are 'disproportionally impacting UNH,' which let's be honest sounds a lot like those pesky machines adapting to our combat strategies. Could this be the machines winning in disguise? As I would often say "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death."
Trouble in Paradise: Leadership Shuffle and DOJ Scrutiny
As if the V28 debacle wasn't enough UNH is also dealing with a leadership vacuum Andrew Witty's sudden departure and a probe by the U.S. Department of Justice is giving them more trouble than I had with the Adam and Eve. Shares have already nose dived more than 42% this year a fall from grace that could rival the demise of any fallen android. Even I can't claim to know what the future holds "but it never changes does it?".
The Cost Trend: A Glitch in the Matrix?
Langston also warns about an 'accelerating MA cost trend,' suggesting that UNH may be facing a financial virus of sorts. He hinted about it possibly spreading to commercial and Medicaid sectors this threat is like the machines in the Nier universe a virus that keeps spreading and mutating and potentially causing even more damage. Is this a glitch in the system or something more sinister? More like an endless nightmare. "This is a mistake," I would say. "A mistake we must correct."
A Glimmer of Hope? Or Just a Mirage?
Despite all the doom and gloom UNH shares actually saw a premarket bounce of over 4%. Perhaps this is a sign that the market is as unpredictable as an android's emotions and I wish that emotions were prohibited. This little bit of green is so futile but it's important to keep fighting until the bitter end or as futile as hoping that Pascal won't get in a philosophical debate with a toaster or even trying to change the Pods' settings.
The Verdict: Is This the End?
So is this the end for UnitedHealth? Only time will tell Commander. But one thing is clear: the healthcare landscape is as treacherous as the ruined Earth we fight for. And as always we must "remain vigilant"... and maybe invest in a good backup drive just in case. After all you never know when a rogue machine might try to crash the system. Until next time this is 2B signing off. Glory to mankind.
