Advance Auto Parts: A Win is a Win No Matter How Small
Right so Advance Auto Parts. They lost less money than expected apparently. A loss is still a loss but in this game losing less is like winning a small battle. Shares up 55%. It's enough to make a man believe in miracles. Or maybe just good accounting. In the words of Arthur "This is a fookin' win!"
Health Insurance Blues: Medicare's Shadow
These health insurance companies Humana and CVS Health are crying about Medicare Advantage audits. Shares dropped. 'Aggressive expansion,' they say. Seems like someone's been skimming off the top and now the piper is being paid. Like I always say 'Everyone's a whore Grace. We just sell different parts of ourselves.' And these lot they're selling peace of mind. Or trying to.
Urban Outfitters and Snowflake: Unexpected Windfalls
Urban Outfitters eh? Up 22%. Snowflake up 11.4%. Making money hand over fist. Seems some people still have taste and others have data storage needs. Good for them. 'Whiskey's good proofing water,' as they say. And these numbers prove something's working. Sometimes fortune favours the bold. Or just the ones selling overpriced clothes and cloud storage.
Solar Stocks' Dark Day: Green Dreams Turn Sour
Now the solar stocks...Sunrun down nearly 40%. SolarEdge and Enphase not far behind. A Republican tax bill has spooked them. Always a bloody gamble relying on politicians. Green energy more like green envy eh? They should have known better. 'We get dirty and the world stays clean. That’s the mission.' And their mission's gone tits up. Looks like they banked on promises written in sand.
Analog Devices and Pitney Bowes: Beating the Odds
Analog Devices they beat expectations but still dropped 3.4%. Can't win them all I suppose. Pitney Bowes on the other hand new CEO shares up. Kurt Wolf steps in. 'Family religion friends. These are the three demons you have to slay if you want to succeed in business.' He will have to slay a few to live up to that position I suppose.
Data Buybacks and Furnishings: A Mixed Bag
Seagate Technology $5 billion share repurchase. They're buying time and shares. Williams Sonoma disappointing guidance shares down. Seems like not everyone can afford fancy cushions these days. 'Lies travel faster than the truth'. Dana upgraded shares up. A mixed bag. The usual. In this business you take the wins where you can find them. And you don't look back.
