Woodstock for Capitalists? More Like 'Walk Away Slowly'

Alright folks Saul Goodman here your favorite lawyer slash financial guru giving you the lowdown on the latest buzz. So Warren Buffett's annual shindig in Omaha what they call the "Woodstock for Capitalists," usually packed with folks from every corner of the globe seems to be hitting a snag. Seems like international investors are starting to think twice about trekking all the way to Nebraska. And I gotta say who can blame them? It's like you wanna make money not end up in some kinda international incident!

Xin Jin's Dilemma: To Omaha or Not to Omaha?

Take Xin Jin a fella from Guangzhou for example. Poured half his assets into Berkshire back in '12. Smart move Xin! But now he's sweating bullets about the whole international travel thing. As he said "I really want to go to Omaha this year... I admire Buffett and I'm very touched by him." But is that admiration worth navigating the current political minefield? I'm thinking maybe a strongly worded email would suffice Xin. Play it safe my friend. After all as I always say 'Better call Saul!'...for advice of course!

Thanks Trump! Trade Wars and Travel Woes

And let's not forget our friends in Shanghai and Jakarta! They're all feeling the heat too. Hostile political environment unnecessary customs issues... Sounds like a real party right? This year's meeting's happening right after President Trump stirred the pot with his whole 'trade war' thing. Now China's put out a 'risk alert' for tourists traveling to the US. Deterioration of China U.S. economic and trade relations.... domestic security situation in the U.S. Yikes! Even I'm getting a little nervous and I've dealt with some real 'colorful' characters in my day.

A Generational and Geographical Shift

David Kass a smart cookie at the University of Maryland noticed a shift in the demographics – more international faces more young guns. Used to hold fancy lunches with Buffett himself! Times are changing people. But hey at least they still got the Q&A session webcast in English and Mandarin. So you can watch it from the comfort of your own home avoiding all those pesky international incidents. See? There's always a silver lining folks.

Buffett's Charm: Not Enough to Go Around

Buffett himself bless his 94 year old heart knows what's up. He and Charlie Munger used to hold special receptions for the international crowd. But it got too big too crazy. "My simply signing one item per person took about 2 1/2 hours," Buffett whined. Poor guy! But hey he still welcomes everyone even if he can't personally sign their commemorative Buffett bobbleheads. Which by the way I could totally get you a discount on. Just sayin'.

So What's the Bottom Line?

Look folks even the best investments need a little protection. If you're thinking about diving into the global market – or even just hopping on a plane to Omaha – you gotta have a plan. And who better to call than yours truly? Saul Goodman: I’m not just a lawyer I’m a *lawyer*. And sometimes that means keeping you out of international hot water one way or another! Now about that retainer...
